Magnetic Oil Plug Washer Blunder

The first time I replaced the spin-on adapter, I did not notice that the gasket stayed stuck to the adapter - so I wound up with a gasket sammich after installing the new filter. This held pressure for a moment...before blowing about a liter of pressurized oil all over the bottom of the car and my garage floor before I got it shut down.
If you are reasonably dexterous, you can remove the plug, stick your finger in the hole, add a crush ring to your oil plug, and reassemble without leaking an appreciable amount of oil. This is best done when the car is cold; otherwise, scalding oil running down your arm is a real possibility...
If this content is not technical enough: IMSB.

My other suggestion is to cryogenically freeze the block and sump, so that the oil is very viscus, maybe even approaching a solid. Don't try to start the car though, the IMSB will fall out.

Never ever changed a washer on any of my autos during an oil change. This includes VW, Toyota and Porsche. Consistently, no leaks.

Put the car in a large centrifuge as you replace the drain plug. Just make sure you have a x51 oil pan or you will starve bearings and your IMSB will fail...

Didn't Jake once say that you could probably run the engine without the drain plug and it would be okay? Some question of oil drain plug ripped off or cracked oil sump plate and making it another 20 miles home? Something like that. So maybe you could start up the engine and quickly swap out the drain plug and all would be well.
Technical Content - oil drain plug, oil drain plug washer, oil, oil sump plate, crankcase vacuum, AOS, IMSB, running engine, vacuum canister, oil filler pipe, oil filler cap, IMSB (sighhhhh)

It’s true. My mechanic flipped out on me when I tossed the old washer and gave him the new one to use. “What’s wrong with the old one,” he said. I said, “Probably nothing, but I bought a bunch of these for $0.50 each, and I just got used to replacing them with every oil change.” I didn’t care to argue with him over $2.50 (5 washers).
