I never got my Durametric to help with airbag light on my '99. It worked for other things like rough idle (coils) and high idle (oil filler cap not on correctly). I just can't get it to read the airbag modules. I know many others had problems with model year '99. Previous owner told me it was the passenger seat belt receptacle, but 5-6 years later the airbag light is still on. One day I will resolve it.

Did you talk to Durametric about the issue? Did they blame it on your car? They are b@stards. I had two ‘99’s and had the problem on both and so I stayed after their @sses until they finally sent me an older cable. It has worked perfectly ever sense for the K2 modules (including airbags). They know they have an issue with their newer cables but refuse to acknowledge it unless you force them to. I will be happy to find and forward my email chain with their tech support to anyone that wants to beat them over the head with it.

Wow, I had no idea I still had such a resentment towards them. Might have to do some step work on it. Lol.

Maybe not a good solution, but the Foxwell NT510 worked well for resetting the airbag code on my car. I think I paid about $150 on sale.

bump on this topic. Just installed a new seat and re-connected the seat belt wire before re-connecting the battery and firing up the car. On first start up the airbag light was on as expected. However every start up since, the airbag light is now gone. Will this code magically clear itself sometimes? Thought it odd for the light to magically go away on its own

thought i'd revive this topic instead of starting a new one. was driving earlier to brunch w/the wife and on the way there everything was fine. on the way back i noticed the airbag light had appeared. what's it mean and is it for the driver or passenger side airbag?

Can be a number of things: airbag, airbag control unit or seat belts.

No real way to tell other than scanning the car. It does not clear itself when it comes on

I think it is implied above, but the code scanner will help you identify the location of the fault so you can repair it before clearing the code.

Here are the components (from a turbo manual but its the same), each one could cause the light:

The seatbelts on these cars are notorious for triggering an airbag light. There’s even a Porsche wiring kit that you can buy to update the seatbelt wiring harness in order to fix it. Being a tenacious soul, I was able to rectify mine with some good ol’ DeOxit spray and a bit of elbow grease on the connectors under the seat.

^^This^^ doesn't surprise me at all... the tip-off is that you were there for a "free oil change"... What else did they try to sell you while you were there? "Free" is just a way to get you in the door, then they hit you with the "up-sell"...
