Default Stiff suspension, clonk over bumps/potholes

Hi

I have something similar to PSS10 on my car. When going over bumps and potholes i hear a boink from the front.

Curious where this sound is coming from? Sounds like someone is hamering ontl the strut mounting points.

Could also be the upper strut mounts.

I had a front-end clunk going over pavement cracks at slow speed. I solved it by replacing the lower control arms. The telling thing in my case was that the clunk went away when I applied a bit of brake. Since then, the shop that did the work has had other 996 customers with the same problem who they were able to fix in the same way.

So was it the bushing in the control that was worn out?

Yes, but it isn't available separately. I used the same parts recommended by Schnauzer - fixed. Also a very easy DIY. GL

For clunks over bumps I suspect the diagonal lower control arms:

I don't believe a visual inspection will disclose much. Concerning your alignment, replacement of those parts won't affect it. GL

Hard to diagnose this from a keyboard across the interweb...

I have PSS10s in my C2, and had a clunk from the top mount, easily fixed by tightening the top nut. But that isn't to say yours is this (or any of the other poster's suggestions).

In my opinion, the only way to figure this out is to put it up in the air on a lift and inspect all of the suspension parts, push, pull, tug, and pry until you find the culprit.

Or take it to a shop and let them do it.
