I think most people either upload an unlisted video to YouTube or host the video in Dropbox etc.

If you could incorporate this into an obd ii plug with a screen I'd buy one! Would have to be in Celsius though, hopefully not another 100 hours to recode it! :-p
Thanks !! And thanks for the tip on loading to You Tube.

Celsius is no problem as the programs math is done in Kelvin, then converted to Celsius by subtracting 273.15, then Celsius is converted to Fahrenheit by (C*9)/5+32, so by deleting that last line would show TempC.

Getting oil temp from OBDII port on a 996 would require "cracking the Porsche Protocol" which is "top secret".Only a few people outside of Porsche has the protocol code, I'm not sure it has ever been "hacked" , they may have known someone who worked on the programming and accidentally let it slip, or maybe they hacked it, but I sure can't.

I admire your willingness to learn new things and going through the pain to get the oil temp. It's a fun and rewarding project.

Brilliant! If only collectively we could crack the code or Porsche let us have it anyway again you've done so well to get it this far!

Thanks, I think Porsche would probably let us have access to the diagnostic protocol for a small (not so small) fee. Cracking the code would be next to impossible. Only one person I know of that could have cracked it named Floyd Wilks, he had a program called DMEeditor that he used to sell that you could DIY tune your DME 5.2.2 and earlier DME's, and is know as a Guru on 944 chip tunes ,I went to buy one and the website would no longer work, then the web site came up for sale and I bought it, the web sight worked but couldn't get the program activation code and could not get in touch with Floyd Wilks, seems he has fell of the face of the earth.

Any progress on this project? I live relatively close and would like to check it out sometime. Also, are you going to be at the Natchez, MS gathering in April this year?

Yes I have been working on this and near completion. Have been doing a little tweeking of the software, mainly the start -up program where it displays Por-...SCHE...tempF. I will install it in the next couple days and do a full write up on parts links and diagrams for DIY'ers, and will program the Arduino for anyone doing it themselves ( no charge). Just buy the Adruino Nano and send it to me and I'll load the program. I'd like to keep the program and not send it out because I have so much work invested in it , over 150 hours! Yea, I know I'm a slow learner, but you CAN teach an old dog new tricks !!..lol

I didn't know about the gathering in Natchez? What y'all got going on ? I probably won't be able to make it because I have lots to do in April. I'm going to a local Hooligan Track Day at Little Talladega Grand Prix and have 3 Porsche's to prepare, one for me and one for each of my two sons. And our local Porsche Club has a DE the end of April (28th-29th)at Barber Motorsports Park. You should come to Barber, registration is open and it's free to spectate and hang-out !!

The Magnolia Region of the PCA has been invited to participate in the Eurofest car show in Natchez on April 7th. Mike Marsh, the director of the show, has requested a Corral for the PCA with Porsches not in the main show. He has proposed an award for best car in the Corral. The cars in the Corral must be in place prior to 9am and remain there until 5pm. This is due to the insurance and the event being a “no wheels turning, static display event”. Also there will be a new class for the show inviting 6cyl Turbos, Gt2s, Gt3 and Gt4 type Porsches. If we can get a commitment from members to participate in the Corral and show, he is considering Porsche as the featured Marque of the event. Please respond by March 5th in order to get a head count and see if all of this will work.

Thank You,

Tony Santangelo
President, Magnolia Region PCA

OK I have finished the Oil Temp Digital Display and tested it against Durametric. It is spot on !.Here is a couple of installation pics, and a short video . I will add links to some parts needed as a suggestion of what to get, and a wiring schematic. You'l need to cut the hole in the blank faceplate and imprvise a way to mount the Arduino to the back of the display, I used some #4 x .750 sheet metal screws and nylon washers from Lowes, and used some nylon tubing for standoffs.
Parts list
1 Arduino Nano ( with soldered headers unless you like to solder)
1 single din blank faceplate
1 Digital Display
8 female to female 10cm Dupont color coded jumper cables
15 feel of cable 22ga 3 conductor (stranded)
1 Posi-tap EX-150B 14-16 X 18-24 (or equivalent)
2 Posi-tap EX-110M 20-22 X 18-24 (or equivalent)
3 Posi-lok PL-1824 18-24 (or equivalant)
4 #4 X .750 sheet metal screws ( .112 diameter)( Lowes)
4 nylon washers .125 ID
4 nylon standoffs .125 ID X 14mm L

Very nice and happy to see how accurate it is. Also good tips on the plastic face plate. It looks stock.

Thanks Ahsai, yes it looks pretty stock, unless of course you know that 996's don't come with oil temp gauges..lol
