Supra or stay with my 996?

Supra,
1. It is your Dad's, hold onto it as long as you can.
2. You will not come across another one owner no stories supra for 30k
3. As much as I love my 996, and I have no intention to get rid of it as my youngest daughter LOVES it. I see a 996 pop up every few weeks that is tempting to buy at a reasonable price.
4. If you have been exposed to that car since 1998 I am sure that it helped form your love of cars. If you let that car slip you will be tracking it down the rest of your life to buy back.

Get the Supra. Worst case, if you don't like it, you can sell it in a year or two for $50-$60k and get a 997 or 996 turbo. Or even the nicest 996 carrera out there and still make a profit.

Easy one- Supra
They are exploding (have exploded) in value where the only thing that will be exploding on the 996 is the M96 motor. Still more upside to go for the TT I think, where a run-of-the-mill 996 will struggle to appreciate.
The Supra has known provenance, the price is ridiculously low and it is your Dad's. If you want a 996 at some point in the future they may be even cheaper than what you will sell yours for presently.
I don't know what you are waiting for...

It seems there's more to the story than meets they eye...? Does your dad need the money? Is he sick? Why the sudden change of heart from "never sell it" to "you can have it for $30k"? In other words, if there's not some pressing need for him to sell it right away, why not just say "you hang on to it and enjoy it dad, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it". If there is a pressing need, and you want to help him out, then sure - you can't really go wrong...I'm pretty sure 996's will be available at similar prices to what they are now for quite some time... Good luck

Well there's your first problem, you got the wife involved! It's easier to just show up with stuff, otherwise you end up in a predicament like you are now.
Happy wife happy life must be true!
Jokes aside...., what do YOU want? Honestly? Which do you like to drive more and could see yourself in for the next "X" years? If you're just going to drive it til it dies, then pick the car you'd be happier driving.

Yep the wife was the reason for me selling my 94tt 6 speed as well.. I talked about getting another one and she was none too happy. She sees the supra (even in 100% stock form) as a ricer car that little teenagers drive around. But either way the car is gone and most likely I wont get back into another one..
Choice is yours but I understand your pain with the wife

yeah one day I showed up with a 350z. A year later the gray Z became a gray 996. TanyaTwoBags didn't like the torquey nature of the Z anyhow, and she likes riding in the Porsche
I fear OP doesn't really have a decision to make here

Supras get stolen. A lot. At least according to NHTSA.
I would buy the Supra, but I'd store it. They aren't making more; at some point unmolested, unrestored Supras are going to sell for ridiculous amounts of money as drift cars continue to reduce the population.
As far as the 350/370 - Mrs. Schnell wanted one, but I've owned a modern Nissan V6. I won't own another one.

The only problem is, my wife (and myself) fear that I will really never be satisfied with any car. I have owned 35 vehicles and I am 37. So I don’t know if I am just itching for something else, or just want the Supra, my once upon a time, dream car.
My dad doesn’t really want to sell it right now, he is just willing to sell it to me. Do I think I will have him hold on to it for me, and when he wants to sell it, I will be there waiting.

Sounds like you should wait, own a few more cars in the meantime and keep your right of first refusal with your dad. He’ll keep it safe and well maintained in the meantime. But don’t let it get away, the Supra is a keeper once you own it.

I grew up infatuated with fd RX-7s & SupraTTs. But I've seen a few around here & don't think I'd enjoy one as much as the 996. Had yet another nice canyon run in my car last night and couldn't get enough of the smooth power, dlip downshifts, & great sound. I'm going out for a 100-mile loop in a bit just for the fun of it. There's little chance I'd enjoy the simple act of driving as much with a Supra, and that's not saying anything bad about it. A 911 is just a special car.

Buy it, put in in a bubble and watch it appreciate.
You can always buy another 996 in a few years for possibly less than you would today.

Supra, no questions asked. 98 TT is the 959 of Toyotas. I deeply regret not getting the base LE 97 NA car 5 years ago for $20k.
BUT, and this is a big BUT. With Supra, you are running into the same issue as with 959 or 993 Porsche. It is an appreciating, almost irreplaceable car. You will not enjoy driving it as much, as you will always be worried about scratches, damaging the car, car getting stolen etc.
With 996, you can beat on it and not give a single F.
