how to post
Howdy folks, I have been reading posts here for a while and now I need to post a question of my own. I have a 03 996 cab that I bought 7 years ago.
6 speed manual 3.6, I bought it with 35k miles on it and now has 109k. My local Porsche dealer traced a replacement engine at 25k, probably IMS issue.
Now my observation and hopefully some input from you.
I noticed a slight miss in the engine when accelerating. I only notice it at between 2600-3400 rpm, in town driving, in 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear. If I am accelerating aggressively the engine goes past that range quickly and I don’t feel it. I do not feel it every time. The miss is a slight hesitation, more felt in the seat of the pants then the pedal. I can’t hear it missing. This has been happening for several tanks of fuel, 92 octane with 10% ethanol and multiple gas stations. I also used several tanks non-ethanol 92 hoping to eliminate the chance of bad fuel or ethanol.
I just changed the spark plugs and coils, I hear coils rarely go bad but after the stories on changing plugs and the effort it took, I wanted to eliminate that possibility. The fuel filter is supposed to be lifetime and I didn’t feel like dropping the tank to eliminate that possibility. I changed the air filter and changed the oil and filter. It still misses. The clutch is original and doesn’t slip, you hit the gas she flies.
I drive a lot of hi-way miles so it isn’t a constant irritant, but then it misses and, well, as fellow Porsche owners you understand that this issue is unacceptable, especially once I start trying to trace the problem.
Any Ideas on where to go next. I am not a mechanic but am capable of doing most maintenance myself.

That slight hesitation or surging effect I believe is caused by the VarioCam at around 3200RPM (+/-) under moderate acceleration. I can also feel this in my C4S when I am driving 'gently' in traffic.

I have a 991.2 Targa 4GTS. I have Xpel coating on all forward facing exterior panels. I want to have it ceramic coated. Quotes I’ve received have been ridiculous. Anyone have a recommendation for CT? Stamford/Greenwich area is best.
