Default They done gone and did it! New 911T

Just a few weeks ago I was talking with my brother about (and I think posted here) how Porsche should make a new 911T, a stripped out, light weight, no frills, no excessive creature comforts and electrical gadgets car. Well they just announced it, and I love everything about it, except for the price. Classic Porsche, give you less, charge you more. I mean, I know they're brilliant, and people will line up and then trample one another to fork over their money for an order. But seriously, 103,000 for this car seems silly. I say they should have priced it closer to a no option Cayman S, which retails around 66 grand I think. Mark it ten grand more and you have yourself more orders than you'll be able to fill. Anyhow, I'm still excited for it. I love the trend that Porsche is going in with a lighter weight more driver pleasure orientated car, which seems to be the soul of Porsche (or at least used to be). And because I'm poor and drive a poverty package 996, I just hope the values on these plummet in say six years or so and I can pick one up for thirty grand. Wishful thinking, I know. I actually think it will be the opposite. As more and more electric and more automated driving iPhones are on the road I think people will yearn for that pure driving experience and everything that is a manual transmission and not run by Steve Jobs' uploaded brain will become more valueable. Which also really will probably dash my hopes of getting an air cooled 911 (thanks Magnus!).

Carrera T - 3,142 pounds
Base Carrera - 3,153 pounds
Carrera S - 3,175 pounds
Carrera GTS - 3,197 pounds

Saving 10 lbs and having no radio doesn't sound like much of a good time. Something tells me the GTS would mop the floor with this, and play music on the way home.

Agreed, the GTS has 80 more ponies and is marginally heavier, it would certainly be faster in every way. And with the GTS pricing starting at $119,000 it is the better choice. Which is why I wish the T was priced better, it just doesn't make sense to price it that close to the GTS.

911T is typical Porsche marketing: creating an unlimited amount of limited editions

The weight reduction is probably more then 10lbs. But it has a mechanical LSD that adds again 22lbs or so.

And how much extra are they charging for taking 10lbs away?

All this considering whether the driver is a fat ***. Just lose 10lbs lay off the burritos.

I like the idea of giving the market a relatively inexpensive, performance spec'd 911. 3142lbs against 370bhp is pretty good stuff with a good suspension. It's a little surprising they couldn't move the needle on weight a bit more for $100k. Maybe a few iterations down the road they'll give more engineering budget to lower weight?

That's standard on all 991.2 cars and is supposed to be a throwback to the original 912 (and 356?).

Yes it looks horrible IMO.

I love the idea of a "inexpensive" and light weight, bare bones 911. It really cannot cost that much more to produce than say a Cayman S. I just don't know why they can't price it a little more appropriately (or at least what I would consider appropriate for a car with no radio).

Porsche is brilliant at marketing; that's why they have the highest profit margins on every car they sell out of all auto makers.

The 991 R and now 991 T can be taught as test cases in marketing classes.

Nice idea but they could have done better then 10 lbs starting with those power seats and other delete options.

Holy ****. I wouldn't even consider driving such an ugly catastrophe.
