This project turned out to take a lot longer than I hoped due to corroded exhaust hardware. I essentially had to cut or break all of the bolts off in order to remove the mufflers... but it was totally worth it!

Darin at FD Motorsports was fantastic to work with. I sent him a picture of my mufflers and he confirmed that they were not suitable cores (they were splitting). He was able to get a set of cores for me and modify them faster than I expected and they arrived quickly. He stands behind his product, is available for questions, and does nice work. Highly recommend ordering them from him vs. having it done locally.

As many others have said, the exhaust gets more aggressive with a nice throaty sound. Under acceleration it sounds great, blip the throttle and you're in for a treat - and at consistent cruising speeds its only slightly louder than stock. All around its a great balance.

They look incredible too - its a shame most of the muffler is covered by the rear bumper.

I agree with everything you said but it's not necessary to remove the rear bumper to do the swap. I installed mine 5 or 6 years ago and have never gotten tired of the sound. Nicely done.

You're right - under normal conditions removing the bumper isn't necessary. I initially tried without removing it but for me it turned out to be necessary as I needed top access to the rear mounting bolts to cut/grind off the heads.

Call Darin - he'll know. Since he doesn't make any distinction on his website regarding core exchanges, I bet they are the same...but he'll know definitively.

+996, give him a call and you'll get a definitive answer in short order. When you actually place the order through his site it asks for year / model / and whether its an auto or 6 speed. That may be a generic form used for all generations though.

I always think that anyone commenting on an exhaust thread should state their age :-) The geezer factor is real. I used to like my exhausts as loud as possible when I was in my 20s. 49 now and I'm pleased to have installed a PSE on mine. I run it mostly in quiet mode, except last Friday at Pacific Raceways

Yes, MKII mufflers will work on an MKI. I've heard that it doesn't work the other way around but I can't see why. The only visible differences are the tab on the MKI muffler cap (opposite end from the exhaust), and lack of accordion folds (MKI Tiptronics have them) on the pipe that goes to the cat.
