Crank carrier part numbers? Difference?
I have an engine that had the good old thrust failure, it has damage on the carrier in the thrust area. I believe I could press it back into service, but at this point if I can just replace it I will.
1996 C2 3.4, 5 chain.
I have a line on a carrier but the part numbers on the casting are wrong.
The original engine carrier part numbers are 996 101 111 3R and 996 101 112 3R
The carrier I'm looking at are 996 101 157 2R and 996 101 158 2R
I have another carrier from a 2004 C4S with 996 101 157 3R and 996 101 158 3R
I'd have to fully spec it out, but the width of the carrier is the same as the original out of the '99 C2.
I can't use this one as it belongs to someone else.
Does anyone know why the difference in part numbers?

Measuring the 3.6 996 101 157 2R carrier found the crank journals/saddles (3.6) are much larger.
I don't know if the 2R and 3R makes the difference, or the seller of the 2R carrier just doesn't know what car the carrier is out of. I've asked this seller to measure the journals.

The 3.6 and even the later 3.4 (987c) engines have
Larger main bearing diameters.
You need a carrier from a 3.4 M96.01,.02, .04 engine code for the 996 application. Box Ster S uses the same carrier in the M96.21 & M96.24 engine, and Boxster base uses it in the M96.22

Yes, the 9x7 3.4 has the larger journals, the same as a 3.6L. These started with the 2006 Cayman S, and 2007 Boxster S (M97.21)
