On the same topic, I have access to a 996 transmission that has been sitting for for over 9 years (off of the car). It worked fine when it was taken out of the car (w/ 50K miles on it). Any reason there should be an issue with it after sitting for so long?

As long as it didn't get wet and corrode it should be fine. Just put fresh oil in and make sure the splines are greased.

You might want to put a new input seal on while its out.

Nope. It turns out I didn't have a transmission issue after all.
GBOX in Colorado seems to be the place to get one rebuilt.
