Cross post: Freisinger experience

Hi group,
I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with this shop?
I'm in need of a transmission rebuild for a 993 turbo and they offer a rebuilt one for $7500 euro with core exchange which seems like a great deal.
Cost to rebuild my trans is more than twice that. Bearing failure took out ring and pinion and several gears.
I let them know my core exchange is in bad shape and offered pics and estimate.
I got back wire transfer instructions (only payment option) and an invoice.
I'm a little nervous to say the least about this transaction.
Thanks

Thanks chsu74,
I did see that one. I think I'd be about where I'm at with rebuilding mine $$ after shipping and refreshing bearings, synchros and gaskets. Assuming all the other internals are good.

I think you can find a place that will rebuild your transmission for much less then 7500.
A lot of the higher end independent shops are experienced enough to do it for you.
I could recommend a half dozen places but most of them are on the east coast, so it would be tough to do from So-Cal.
The only person I can think of to speak to about this would be Darin at FD Motorsports. They are in a suburb of Sacramento/San Francisco/san jose. I would give him a call, they are very fair with prices and labor and they are very honest people. Darin is the type of guy that would open the trans up and call you and tell you... "you dont need a full rebuild.... just change this"

Thanks carguy19,
Finding a good shop near me isn't a problem. The labor is the cheap part.
I was told prices on parts have gone crazy since VW took over several years ago. That and a shortage of good used parts.

I bought a couple of 993's NOS tranny nose ends and bearings from Freisinger not too long ago and I'm very satisfied with the service and prices. Very serious Porsche shop in my book.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I just had my trans re geared to gt2 specs by Roger at California Motorsports. Sold him the stock 1/2 gear which was mint for $500 yesterday so he should still have it. He offered $300 for the 4th and 5th gears together which he said are in good condition. If you want the 4th 5th just pm me or I can just sell them to him next week.

Freisinger is the most expensive of the expensive. They don't mess around with quality but you will pay for it. They are more like Canepa and less like LAPD.
