Concern's To Install Of K24 Turbo's ?
A GERMAN FRIEND OF MINE OWNS A 993 TURBO AND HAS A QUESTION CONCERNING THE INSTALLATION OF K24 TURBO'S AND IF HE NEEDS TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT CHANGING THE ECU TO MATCH THE UPGRADED TURBO'S TO THE 993'S FUEL SYSTEM. WILL THE NEW TURBO'S DAMAGE THE ENGINE IN ANY WAY WITH THE ORIGINAL ECU LEFT IN THE VEHICLE. WILL THE AIR TO FUEL MIXTURE BE A CONCERN WITH THE NEW TURBO'S. OK ALL YOU EXPERTS, ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT, THANKS

Hi:
If your friend installs a pair of K-24's the ECU MUST be mapped for those turbos to take advantage of what they do. No real chance of damage here; its just that the car will be slower with a stock ECU and the bigger turbos.
If the ECU mapping is correct, it will alter the fuel mixture and in some cases, you might need a 5 bar FPR.

When I changed my K16's to K24's, I had a period of two weeks before my engine management could be reprogrammed.
I wanted to use the car in the interim, and had the same concerns you have raised here.
We put the car back onto the dyno to check a/f ratio
**CLICK**
The standard computer is able to supply enough fuel to the k24's
as long as you don't increase the boost
[ Infact, the a/f ratio was slightly richer ! ]
The car was superb to drive. Slightly more powerful than standard, and it actually felt smoother than standard !!!
However, as Steve stated, if you wish to take advantage of the k24's potential, you must upgrade the ECU and FPR

Hi:
Per your PM,.....
If your friend's TT is a 96 TT, he will need a later '97 ECU to remap it, as the '96's cannot be redone. Those use a proprietary Bosch non-EPROM chipset that is NLA. If his car is a 97-98, its chippable. Several people do this and we use one of the several superb GIAC software variations, depending on desired power level.
Your friend should also budget for an additional oil cooler if he pursues this as the single OEM cooler is isufficient to keep the motor cool when you make more HP (BTU's).
