Six years and 10k miles in and tires are pretty much toast. I've done the search but am looking for more current input. Any recommendations on the best replacement 225/40 and 285/30 on stock 18's? As it should be with a 993tt, cost is not a consideration.

For the oem sizes, use the Michelin PS2's or if you want an R compound tire for the street or track, use the Michelin Cup 2's.

Go 295's in rear, little wider & closer to diameter of 225's in front.

Why is this a concern? I just paid $1500 to have 235 fronts and 295 rears of PS2s installed at the local dealership. Tire rack could not get supply as there is limited supply so priority shipments are given to dealers.

This works out to approx $250 per year on tires. No different to annual oil changes. I am ok with the cost given how reliable these 20 yr old cars are. It's not like you are replacing them annually. I would go with a cheaper tire if done annually.

Thanks guys. Think I'll do PS2's in stock size. They are quite popular among locals as well.

Even if cost is not an issue, some of the cheaper (cost) tires are reasonably close to performance of the "N" spec tires. I have used the Hankooks for a few years now, and like them for their "bang for ya buck" value. Don't really take car to limits of tires, on the road. If you don't drive in the top 5-10% of vehicles limits, the better buy tires will do more than enough.

call me a cheap bastard, but I'm very pleased with Sumis at $700 delivered, mounted, and balanced.

I'm not pushing my car that hard on the street anyway.

OK. "You cheap bastard". I believe in shopping around for the best prices on the expensive stuff.

Probably better to find the "best stuff", for the best prices. Expensive doesn't necessarily mean it's the best quality.

PS2s are outdated technology, functional, but old.
Consider Yoko AD08R or Hankook RS-3 if you like dry weather grip.

The new Micheling PS4s might be worth a look.
