Hollow Spoke Turbo Twist
Guys,
Any ideas where I can purchase - hollow spoke turbo twist wheels i.e. the standard TT wheels.
Also, how much can I expect to pay for a set of 4 ?
Finally, is there much wieght difference between the hollow spokes and the solid ones I see advertised.
Thxs

From the archives:
..............................Technology (hollow spoke)....Turbo Look (solid spoke)
8x18 ET52 (Front).......993.362.136.00 - 19.95 lb.....993.362.136.01 - 25.57 lb
10x18 ET65 (R-Narrow).993.362.140.01 - 23.36 lb.....993.362.140.04 - 29.32 lb
10x18 ET40 (R-Wide).....993.362.140.00 - 25.13 lb....993.362.140.03 - 31.08 lb
But Turbo S rims are polished, so they look shinier than normal technolgoy rims. The weight differece is significant because it's rotating mass. I'd expect to pay anywhere from 1000-1600 for a set of technology rims without tires.
Are you thinking of getting a set of track wheels?

There is a set for sale on the 993 board... in the thread about "goodies for my 993: not 56k modem friendly" or something like that. $1200 and he says they're perfect hollow spokes off his C2S. Keep it in the family.

I think the C2s/C4s had optional hollow spokes. So just check the part number.
SPR, why do you like the turbo II wheels so much? Personally, I like the look of the stock 993 technolgoy wheels better.

I agree with you Jeff. I like the older ones better. I'm actually thinking about refinishing my turbo look wheels because they're so thrashed. It would be nice to get some new HREs, but I think I'd rather save $$ for a performance mod.

for the 996 though I really like the 02 carrera rims as they are lighter than the technology for c2 and have wider fronts. But that's for my c2- which is sitting still dead because of some dumb *** lady!

Hi, I am probably going to get some new wheels and would thus sell the stock 97TT wheels on my car. Excellent shape. I can send pictures if you are interested. Send me an email tmario@rentec.com

Jeff, I am considering replacing the wheels due to some scuff marks on them from the shipping straps.
Also, the rears have been fixed due to a flat, Bobby had when he owned the car. I am sure the fix was done properly, but I am very keen to replace these with new items, there is a pretty ugly weld on each rear wheel - towards the inside of the rim i.e. close to the engine.
Mario i will send you a pm / and or check the classifieds.
I may use the original wheels for track usage...However, the wheel fix and high speed track usage makes me cautious to use the fixed rims for this purpose.
At this stage I am looking for options, not sure which route I will ultimately go.

Hi,
ebay has some great prices at Ernies alloys. he will also take yours in trade. You save 6 lbs on the fronts and 7 lbs on the rears. I bouhgt mine from another guy and only paid $2,100 for them and he gave me 800 for my regular turbo twists. Ernies are more expensive but he also gives more in exchange.
He is easy to deal with.
