hmm, that's 185K CAD! can't see then intercooler, would think the big Secan comes with it. I wonder who would need this engine. Someone with a gt2 and a engine that can't be rebuilt? It can't be cost effective to use in a car? museum piece? Wonder what the story is behind it.

It states in the accompanying blurb that the engine comes sans intercooler.

If this is a real M64/83 EVO engine then it is quite special, these things revved to 8000rpm sporting a special forged racing crank and specific connecting rods and has 5 fuel pumps.
It should have special turbos with external wastegates, I can't see this in the pics - can anyone else ?

My info above is from Paul Frere.

^ they look like normal turbos to me too and would be surprised if they used the stock exhaust/cats/heater parts for such a motor.
Does it say anything about the ecu?

Given that it is a "make an offer" listing they are reaching for the stars on this one.

My memory of the EVO engine developments ( a pal raced one back in the day) was that the best cars ended up with K24/26 internal wastegated turbos (similar to the ones I have) in fact pretty much the same build as I have (EVO head prep, welded fins sealing rings, porting, valves, cams, rods replaced by Carillos etc) except for the special intake system (RSR N/A I think) with the programming done using MAP (rather than the MAF) and the big Secan. They didn't rev much past 7500rom but didn't need to as there was a big area under the curve and they ran around teh 650PS peak power mark with good torque (800+NM) from 4000rpm
So really this engine advertised may well have started as a factory spec EVO engine but now could be anything ?

Default EVO turbo

Looks very much like a GT EVO engine, twin distributors, 180deg elbow to the throttle body, adjustable rod ends tubes on each side to support the intercooler, wide fan belt with the RSR tensioner pulley and must be running a TAGtronic ECU. If it's not an EVO engine somebody spent major $$ to built this engine.

Buddy of mine runs a factory EVO GT at Mosport and the Glen and this engine looks very much like his except my buddy runs a cast plenum with slides throttle body's. Too bad there's no pics from the underneath of the engine.

All the teams upgraded to EVO spec, they had to to remain competitive - imagine paying $20K for that intercooler back in '97/98, that intake conversion was also major bucks.

I guess the question is, is this engine worth significantly more if it is a "factory" EVO than a race built identical clone ?

My view is that it isn't since these big numbers are being paid for original cars which must have the original engine so that leaves this engine as "just" like all the other race Secan EVO GT2 motors without chassis to put them in.

From what i gather, The early 993 GT2 race cars had single plug. And then upgraded to twin plug and different intercooler at some point.

Yup, the original race GT2s had an OEM specific different intercooler (from the 993 turbo/street GT2) and ran around 470PS. The twin plug is the EVO Secan version, the earlier racing ones were all upgraded (qt great expense) to remain competitive.

The preparation for the sealing rings, conversion to solid lifters, extra hole for the second plug and some porting work is what I can think of. I know Porsche sell a few versions of 993 cylinder head, for my 3.8 build I needed a full set of new heads )as my old ones had been skimmed to their limits and CR was too high) and I seem to remember my tuners gave me a couple of head options as base heads for the EVO preparation, I think I chose the cheapest

Interesting, I didn't know Porsche made any other heads for the turbos than the ones that came on the car originally. I know the 993 NA heads are different. Are you using Mahle P&C's 8.0 CR?
