Default Looking at this 96 - opinions

Looking at this 96 turbo. It has a full repaint in original arena red with grey interior. For some reason, the pics aren't showing up on the full website. There were actually 4 pics on the mobile site when I saw the ad on my phone.

TIA.

I'd be askin' why such a low mileage car was re-painted?

The owner was having the stone guards replaced in 2013 and a quarter size chunk of paint came off. After reviewing his options and general overall condition of the paint, he decided to have a full repaint done. It is reported to have been done at a very high level. He is working on locating the bill for the repaint.

Two original-paint TTs at ~20k miles topped around $150k last week on eBay, for a couple data points. (One was even red/gray with 16k miles.)

Yeah, I saw those on the other thread. Does the repaint diminish the value a bunch as long as the story is correct? FWIW, I have no reason to doubt it is any other than as told. Owner is longtime PCA member/officer and is second owner.

My opinion, as a non-collector market watcher, is that on a low mileage car, a repaint would hurt value. On a higher mileage car, a quality repaint shouldn't do much. This one's sort of in the middle on miles - not quite a garage queen, but obviously it hasn't been a real "driver" either.

Personally I think he's kind of aiming high with that price and the repaint should bring it down a bit, but I could be off base. I've been watching TTs closely for a while and I'd guess it's about a low-to-mid $130s car right now.

On the other hand, if you value having that showroom new paint job and aren't concerned about paying a bit much, it could be a decent buy in that price range. All comes down to "what's it worth to you?"

(I'll now wait for a market expert to smack me around and tell me about the secret Rich Guy Shadow Market where these trade at $170k+ all day. )

Here's a good comparable to watch:

45k miles, AR/beige, looks to be in good shape. If history is any indication, it won't meet reserve, but still will be interesting.

Correct!

Price wise for a full repaint he def shouldn't be commanding the same $ as original paint. Mileage is still not high so to some still within collectable range if it was all original. He is priced higher but not absurdly.

Thanks for all the responses. While I have a 993 cab, these turbos are definitely a different animal.

Do the turbos have the secondary air injection problems that the NA 993s do? Or so they use a different block?

I hope to make a quick decision in the next day or two at the latest.

Much written is that SAI issues are not prevalent in turbos. BTW, once you go turbo you never go back! I don't buy the paint story but must confess to being a bit of a skeptic. Good luck.

SAI issue is still possible on the Turbos, it's just seems to be less common or at least on RL we don't hear about them as often as the NAs.

A quick search, this was the last reported one here:

I know the car and owner well. This car is very nice and super clean. While it may not wear the original paint it is a high quality repaint. I get everyone wants original showroom quality paint but in this case you get showroom quality, just not original.

More information and pictures are here: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...win-turbo.html

Note: Completely affiliated as I am helping the owner market the car.
