Steering wheel vibration....but only @ cold ambient temp
 

I think I know the answer to this.....but just bouncing it off you guys.

Strange? steering wheel wobble/bounce that is directly proportionate with ambient temp.... the colder it is the worse it gets.
*40 degrees F or below... it's so pronounced it can be visually appreciated by the passengers.
*75 degrees F and above.... no visual wobble and barely tactically perceptible by driver

again i think i have an idea....but I'm not the best shady-tree....any thoughts?

Have you replaced your front control arm bushings? Common problem with our cars.

Thanks....probably...in fact it's the whole oem suv U.S. suspension STILL in place from new......think it's time for pss10's

If the bushings, it's interesting that it happens at colder temps. Wanna also mention tire pressures and of course age/type of tires too.

If your going to upgrade the suspension check your tie rods too.

Thanks....new tires all around this summer......but its definitely temp dependent....i think that rules out tires/wheels.....has to be a bushing?....

drove it to work early this am bouncing all over the place...i'll drive it home (going to be 65 degrees F then) and it will be barely noticeable.

I had worn bushings in mine for years and drove the car during colder temps, the only times I had vibrations were at higher speeds during 993Fest. And I know some had complained of vibrations at only certain speeds like 60mph range etc, never heard of it temp dependent.

If temp dependent, I'd be suspicious of the tires or bent wheels. In the colder weather, if you drive for a long time (i.e. Tires warm) does it get better? (Softer tires will make minor bent wheels seem okay)

Gotcha...I wonder how i can heat up the tires tho:thumbsup:

....just as expected later in the day with warmer temps (was beautiful actually over 70 degrees in November is amazing) and no vibration/gone. My fair-weather 993...geez:banghead:

What tire's are you running? What are your cold tire pressures?? Increase all tire's 2 psi and report improvements and changes.

Your tire's are temporarily flat spotting. The increased tire pressures will help/resolve issue. Try 36 front and 40 rear.

......completely asymptomatic over the summer with the new tire install was kinda shocked actually almost asking for trouble with such small sidewalls and then throwing spacers in the mix etc.....so I was actually shocked at install when they rode great...all summer too. hhhhhmmmmm.

+1. Mine do this too if the car is parked for even a week. It's worse the colder the weather gets but goes away as car is driven. Parking on foam tiles will eliminate it.

I have had flat spotting after just a couple of cold days with both Sumi's and Bridgestone S02a's. Didn't notice the same problem with PS2's. The flat spotting usually goes away after about 10 miles or as the temps rise.

Try bumping up the tire pressures. My 993tt sits for weeks sometimes. Michelin PSS. Flat spotting.
