This is just crazy...
Turbo S - 9,208 miles...$542,700...I mean COME ON here folks...this is getting to be a bit out of control...It's not a hand-built Ferrari or a one-of-one car thats 50 years old...it's a Porsche Turbo, albeit with some special bits and an S added to the decklid.
Is it just me....or is this car priced a little out of this world...I could see it fetching $400k...but another $142k above that...crazy...

Every Seller needs a Buyer, until such a meeting of the minds, no data point.
With only one item for sale and two or more potential buyers, any price is possible.
The potential problem with all of this "good news" is Insuring for stated value is becoming more and more expensive.

993s are hand built and hand painted. The last of the line. (Porsche decided to actually make money after that.)

Was this the one that was at the Beverly Hills Car Club? Did it already sell? What was wrong with it?

There are very few shops who know their way around these cars despite what people say about production numbers etc..

Let's see, there were 182 Turbo S built. There are 3 that I know about that were wrecked and salvaged. One of them is fora sale at Top Gear(Silver), the other was at LA Dismantler (Silver), and then there was a blue one in 2000 that was wrecked while parked in Santa Barbara. I know I'm missing some. So let's even say 5% were destroyed. So roughly 175 still exist. This number is a lot lower than the standard 993 TT. While there isn't TOO much of a difference, the S commands roughly 2x the value. Low mile 993 TT = $250- $300, so the S is $500-$600. Look at the 73 RS vs 73 911S - 4x the amount. At the end of the day, a car is worth what somebody wants to pay for it

Care to show me a 993TT S that sold for anywhere near $600k?
convenient given you happen to own one (even though you can't sell it to save your life)

This is where someone mentions a conveniently unverifiable private sale he knows about.

Price trend
The Amelia Island turbo s with 15k miles sold for $440k, which is pushing $500k with 10% commission. You can argue that it is a rare color but not a color that I would want to own.
With the 993 bubble, everything is hyperinflated. Let's see how the prices settle in the next year or so as we see the stock market corrects itself. My personal view is that we will see the prices come down to 2013/14 prices, which is still a health gain for the most of us.
Don't get me wrong, I love my turbo s and the c2s but prices have gone insane. Same thing has happened in the Ferrri market. Challenge Stradale went up almost $100k overnight after someone bid $300k for a 2k mile CS.

If anything, the surplus of cars available on the market now should help with the cooling.
At least, I see it happen in other collectible markets I follow: for whatever reason, something becomes HOT HOT HOT, several auctions wind up to the moon, everyone sees what's happening and goes for the cash grab and suddenly, available supply is 10x what it once was, the buyers willing to pay the moon prices already have their shiny thing, and prices recede. (Generally not to previous levels, but about midway.) Granted, that doesn't work when the item has an extremely limited quantity to begin with, but I don't think that describes many of the air cooled 911s.

And as for my cars I really don't want to sell them. But for the right price... Everything is for sale.
I'd love to hear your market report for 959s and other specialty cars.
