993 Turbo 408, 430 or 450 HP ?
Hello all,
The search for "my" Porsche 993 Turbo is continuing. Most cars for sale come with the 408 HP engine, but I have also seen some others advertized with the factory option of 430 HP and 450 HP. Would someone mind elaborating on these options? Do they correspond to a certain option code? If so, will this option code appear on the sticker affixed to the inside of the luggage compartment lid?
Also, from a purely practical point of view, is their a discernable benefit
of having a 430 or 450 HP engine? I mean, 408 HP is not bad, so do you really feel those additional 22/42 horses?
Thanks for your insight,

IE, the boost lag for the 450 kit is larger than the regular 408. This sacrifices some driveability. Sure, you get more power, but you have to be ready when it comes. You can do some aftermarket things ( cat bypass, muff bypass, turbo modifications ) to get around this. But it adds up really quick!
I'd recommend that you look for a 408 car to start out with. That's plenty of car already. If you really want a premodified car, you have to be very knowledgeable about what you are looking at already. Keep in mind that mods which are not done correctly will not be good for the engine too.

The 430PS option was effectively just a modified ECU program allowing higher boost pressure over 5500rpm
The 450PS option as seen on the Euro Turbo S included different turbochargers .
As Jeff points out, it is relatively easy and cheap (ish) to modify a 408PS car so it is not worth paying a premium for one of these unless you MUST have factory original.
