Prices softening up.. Perhaps

Good point, air cooled turbo spoilers are larger and just look better than the rear spoilers on the water cooled cars. Porsche design follows function. The air cooled spoilers are large to assist air cooling function as well as down force. The rear spoilers on water cooled 911s are functional for downforce. They have no cooling function, and thus a different shape. The air cooled spoilers really make the turbo's look exotic, but the public cannot fault these spoilers for cosmetic tomfoolery. No other exotic car has such a functional, large, mysterious rear spoiler as Porsche's 911 Turbo. As high as the price of 993 TT's might seem, prices have not kept pace with such exotics as Lamborghini's Countach or a Dino [Ferrari], the latter with a caricature rear spoiler, and the former with less performance than an MR2 Toyota.

Very misleading to look at an auction result and extrapolate that out to represent the general market. Every car at auction is a unique bidding environment. The car you reference, for example, had only two bidders above $150,000. One guy got the car he wanted, so if this same car were to be auctioned again tomorrow, he’s not bidding and the high bid is something like $155,000.

Another data point: 13k mile 1996 Turbo. Rated 10/10 in all areas; history, condition, mechanicals. As perfect as a "used" car can be, let alone one that is 22 years old. Every square inch of paint metered original. Seller was very firm at $197k. Transaction closed last week.
