Default Easy opinions wanted...RS engine mounts?

Getting a new clutch and LFW; dealer doing it and is taking the "engine out" route. (I know, I know you can do it w/o removing the engine but whatev..you know how dealers are) My indy couldn't get it in til late Feb so I'm letting the dealer rape me a lil.
Anyway....Whilst engine out...how bout RS engine mounts? Pros/cons? And why are they desirable? Just a more rigid rubber? There must be a downside.

Thanks

Joe

Shifting becomes a little bit better, not much increase in noise, no viscous fluid to leak/fail, little less weight.

engine out is pretty much only way to do Turbo clutch / flywheel if you still have AWD connected.

RS mounts?

I agree with ian 993gt2
Once they're in, you'll notice a little more "buzz" in the cabin through the chassis, but not much else.
but
They're all the rage in the 993 NA forum.
  • improves shifting, (but then NA cars don't have shifter bolted to big black tube)
  • rear end feels more planted
  • grows more hair..... (I wish)

I installed them and just notice the buzz.

Windrush Evolution's blue or black elastomer mounts may be a better choice.

I just installed Kevin's lwf/clutch kit and my Indy had the motor out since we did plugs, wires, dist. cap rotors, while out he pointed out to me that one mount had collapsed so of course I choose to replace them both and we had the discussion on what to replace them with and I ended up replacing both with the factory mounts. His opinion was that the stock ones work best for street driving. Also I recommend replacing the rear main seal for good measure while the tranny is out its a relatively inexpensive part

Yup I've got Kevin's set-up too. That's what I'm putting in. I suppose I could ask his opinion. But it sounds like RS mounts are mostly a track mod benefit thus far according to consensus.

Read this DIY website for part numbers.

I think he was asking about the clutch kit.

as for motor mounts, skip the RS tomfoolery and get the wevo blacks.

like them.

I have had both RS and conventional mounts in both my NA and Turbo 993s - and noticed not one bit of difference. The replacement mounts in both cases were in good condition though, so if your current mounts are shot there may be a difference - but whether it's just because its a new mount, or its a RS mount who knows.

This can be done easily with the engine in the car, so it's not something that needs to be done because you are dropping the engine. Sure, it's slightly easier with the engine out, but it's really inconsequential.

Cheers,

Mike

My experience matches Mike J. I felt no difference when I replaced decent stock mounts, and the job was no big deal with the engine in place. And, of course I had the work done... FD Motorsports. So when I say "no big deal", I mean "very easy on the wallet".

Agree with Quad on the Wevo Blacks. I feel a little more connection to the engine and get more engine noise. I'd call it a nice improvement. But my stock mounts were leaking.

And as Mike says, this is an easy DIY.

I had a leaking mount. Replaced with solid mounts. 6 bolts total and about an hour max to complete. No noticable NVH to complain of.

But if you're not very bright (like me) and drive in the mountains like you're on the track then......... :-)
