I'm looking at buying the Snap-On # YA996 tool for the small oil filter.
I am wondeing if there are any other tool options that have been proven better?

We just had a thread about this a while back - do a search.

This is what I use - cheap and works every time. No point to spend the $$$ that snap-on wants for this

In Burnaby, about 35 min from the airport. You are certainly welcome to come over and BS, there always seems to be some sort of cars gathering at my place.

cheers,

Mike

I tried the one you mentioned from Autozone. no dice. It was on pretty tight on the oil tank side. I resorted to using the cap style and used some sandpaper to get some extra grip. worked like a charm.

it almost seemed like mine was too shallow of an arc for the oil filter. Maybe I got a smaller size, but it was the only one I saw there.

This is the one I use. Always works, no matter how tight the filter is. The tighter the filter, the more it digs in.

Bought it several years ago in desperation after I mistakenly let a shop change my oil. Old filter was on so tight, everthing else I tried slipped.

Huge 2nd. It the same thing as the Snap-on/Blue Point tool at a greatly reduced price! I've had mine for quite some time and it NEVER has an issue with the small filter on a 993.

I also have had zero issues with the tool I use as well

- and I have done literally dozens of oil changes with it (a constant stream of 993's are going through the shop). I do not think you can go wrong with either solution since they work on the same principle ...
