993tt for me?

993tt for me?
Looking for advice from seasoned car a.d.d. members here.
I have within the past 2 years had a number of cars including 3 gt3RS, the last being a 10 that I sold only to fund my current "keeper", a ford GT.
I love the fgt. Because of everything that vehicle represents, I am having a hard time deciding if my intended purchase of a 997tt would be futile.
I would get another gt3 based on sound and feel alone. But, because I use my cars only to drive the back roads to my cottage, Im looking at the 997tt as I like the ability to drive 9 mo out of the year. I do like the turbo body better...
The problem is I'm not in love with the 997tt. I want to like it but...
Is the 993tt a viable option? I love the look and everything that it represents... but I've never driven one.
Any insight would be appreciated

Lots of comparisons out there between the two. Sheer performance is no comparison - 997tt will win every category. But what you get in the 993 IMHO, is worth WAY more than the performance advantage the 997 has. The car has soul. Drive one and you'll understand.

The feel, fit, and finish are entirely different in comparing the 997TT and 993TT. It sounds as if you've given the former a go. You need to take the 993TT for a drive. You'll know whether it's your next ride within about 15 minutes of spirited driving.

I had to sell one of my Porsches - 3 was stupid - and my 993tt was my favourite for sure but I told myself that I would advertise both cars (the other is a Cayenne tt) and first one that goes - goes. Anyway, as expected, .....the 993tt sold in effectively 72 hours of being on Rennlist...my 997tt however (which I like very much don't get me wrong) little interest. The 993tt is prettier, more visceral, more fun, more work, smells like fuel/oil just the slightest bit...just an awesome ride. You can't go wrong with either but I'll pick the 993tt if I had to start over again. They are special.

I have to have a car with soul...
After all the cars I've been fortunate to own, the ones I remember have soul and a visceral feeling when driving.
Going fast gets old on public roads. I need a car that has a timeless body, sounds good, and most importantly, is as entertaining to drive at 45 as it is at 145. Because I spend a lot more time at 45.
I will need to get a ride in a 993tt, so if anyone is in no. Illinois / so. Wisconsin and wants to show off their car...
How is the clutch feel, Im hoping more like gt3 less like 997tt...

You are right, you have to try it to decide. You might find the 993TT too primitive for your tastes. If you wrench on your cars, its about the last 911 before it gets really complicated to maintain. From a performance perspective, its a fast car, but lots of new cars are faster - but few have the look back and admire shape. I have had 993's for 11 years now, and still look back to checkout the car, especially the Turbo from the rear. NICE!
When I see a 997 parked, I might give it a glance, but certainly do not spend a few minutes just starting, appreciating the lines of the car. I do that with the Turbo - :-)
Road feel is different as well, more connected, but the car can sting you - no formal traction control, non of those silly electronics telling you want to do, just a guy driving a mechanical device that will do what you tell it to, even if it gets you into trouble. Good stuff!
Cheers,
Mike
