Surely the regular Andial 3.8s had head sealing ?

Is single plug standard and twin plugs optional on the Andial 3.8 motors?

IamSMC:
The Andial 3.8 Twinplugs were Andial's ne plus ultra offering. They were completely built at the Andial facility. The cost ran $50-60 K.
They were fully balanced and blueprinted etc etc, and Andial certified every one. Each of these certified cars has a letter from Andial confirming their place in the registry. There were about 21 of these cars built. Only 19 remain.

Nope..., not the street engine.

A twin plug without head sealing seems a bit pointless, the heads have to go to the machine shop anyway ?
Without head sealing the boost has to be limited to 1.1 bar otherwise there will be leakage - I thought these Andial claimed near 800NM which means 1.3+bar

AFAIK they were not welded (fins) either and cars that did lots of track time eventually needed both welding and sealing done.

The Ruf turbo Rs didn't get head sealing either and also leaked.
From memory the head sealing and welded fins came off the back of the racing experience with the 600+hp EVO Secan engined 993GT2s and in the day the exact materials (rings) and method used (type/size of groove) was a closely guarded secret among the racers.

Would have thought Andial, with all their race turbo experience would have known about this and leak proofed their 3.8 - very odd

I sure they know about it, but most people working on these cars don't think it's required on a street engine. It's probably only a minority that leak even with track duty. From what I understand the corrective steps are to weld the fins first and if still leaks doing the flame rings. I would love one of these engines (or even a turbo r motor) and would buy one if another came up for sale. (but I'd have the sealing done and run race gas on the track).

Yep, I had mine flame ring sealed from the start, doing the 3.8L Protomotive twin plug. Seems like any higher power/higher boost setup should be built this way.
