Default Tires question

I am now running on continental sport contact 2. Size: Front 225/40/18 & Rear 285/30/18.

Need new tires for the rear.

Check in porsche technical info and the recommended tires size is 225/40/18 & 265/35/18.

Question is which size is appropriate?

And the shop here only have the sport contact 3. should i use contact 2 for front and contact 3 for rear?

Opinion is duly appreciated. thanks in advance.

If you have a 993TT, you should be using 285x30x18. Nothing smaller.

Mixing tires is always a crap shoot... sometimes its OK, sometimes its damn awful. You can try mixing the 2s and the 3s, and if the car feels weird, you'll have to toss the fronts and use 3s all around.

The tire sizes 225/40 and 265/35 are factory specs for a narrowbody 993 with 18" wheels. For a widebody 993 (2S, 4S, TT) recommended tire sizes are 225/40 and 285/30.

Make sure the 4 tires are a matched set.

Default Tire, tires, and more tires

What I have gathered from the collective Rennlist wisdom . . .

Default New tires

If you like the Continentals, you might want to try a new set with the ExtremeContact DW. They get good reviews and appear to be value leaders. I may try them when my Michelins wear out. Each generation of Michilen tires that I have owned have improved in performance and wear.

I have mixed sets from Michelin without an issue (Pilot Sport in front, PS2 on the rear). I would like to go to the Michelin Pilot Super Sports which sound even better than the PS2, but I can't find a right combination for the 993tt yet.

Steve,

What are you using on the 19's ruf? Is 245/35/19 for the front too big?

I use Toyo Proxies T1R, 255x30x19 and 315x25x19. My car is not terribly low, and runs a very non-agressive camber. No rubbing issues.
