Default New owner of '97 TT!

Hello everyone, wanted post some pics of my new to me TT. Thank you to those that helped with the decision process. I have a few minor upgrades/repairs to do, but nothing on the performance side. I’ll need a mechanic in the Los Angeles (Hollywood) area and i already got a few car stereo guys from a previous post. Still can't believe my wife let me buy it (just had a baby boy last month!)

Few details: Arctic/Black (red stitching/red belts)
Sport seats
Sunroof Delete
Aluminum Dials
51,000 Miles
? Clutch, Its really heavy, but i kinda like it

Congrats. On the car too!

*Clutch should not be "heavy". Should be butter smooth. You may need a new slave and accumulator. Do a search, and read a few threads. May even need a new clutch soon. These things can all be worked out. It's just money. You can make more.

Sport seats.....deviated stiching....sun roof delete......pretty "rare" Turbo.

Yeah, i searched some threads and even posted some questions. but here is the gist of my post:

During the ppi, the shop, which is a well known and came recommended on rennlist, told me the clutch was really heavy and definitely has something wrong with it. After some time looking into it more, he told me that a bunch of lines are capped and the clutch is missing the accumulator and may be missing even more. I should mention everything else has checked out, and I'm ready to close the deal, but the seller (a dealer) doesn't want to fix the clutch, stating it's a 14year old car, and the clutch is new as of 3k miles ago (based on a receipt from the guy he got the car from that only states they changed out the clutch with customer supplied parts) the dealer then told me it's probably a GT2 conversion, but I'm not buying it, and neither is the shop.

This is e last email I got from the shop.

The number I called was of no help, they said they installed “customer supplied parts”.
We don’t know what’s inside for the clutch. *
To find out what’s inside is the same cost for a clutch replacement. (with-out parts, $1160-$1190)
To go thru all this you should change the clutch disc/plate etc. while your there, start with new.
Plus 3-4 hours to change / add, the proper clutch cylinder ($915) and the pressure accumulator ($160). Keep in mind if all the lines are present and in good working condition.

i figured i drive it for a while and change it out in a little. it runs great other than that!

welcome. love the car and really like the sunroof delete. who needs a 40 lb hole in the roof? the clutch is a non issue -- it's an attempted gt2 conversion. when the clutch wears out, put it back to oem. no biggie. congrats

Nice specimen. Rare combo.

The clutch issue is just a mechanical niggle that will need sorted out. You should set aside a budget for keeping her in top condition (tires, regular services, repairs, mods, . . . ). After all she is 13 going on 14, and some stuff wears out with miles and other stuff wears out with time. Around here we call that consumables ;-)

Then enjoy the rare pleasure that is air cooled TT stewardship.

The heavy clutch could be a conversion; I have it on mine. Much better than the stock over-assisted setup. Have a shop that knows the conversion check it out.

Sweet ride!
