If you can live with the looks of the 996, the GT2 is a great machine for daily driving and heavy track duty. With some tweeking and upgrades it becomes very hard to beat in very reliable form. I have not experienced the widow-making reputation that it has even when pushed hard, it is a handful no doubt about it though, more because of the power than the handling, which in my opinion is just as safe or safer than a 993TT with same HP.
The Willhoit GT2 is ridiculously expensive, you find several in Europe with close to that mileage for much less than that, although Porsche cars there command a premium price vs. the US (due to Euro and taxes mainly)

The 996 gt2 in the uk have gone from £40k to £120k they have out run the value of the 993 turbo which were £50k and are now £100k. The 996 has a greater following than the 993 I believe

I own a 993TT and a Dodge Neon SRT4 (probably worth 5% of my 993TT) amongst other cars. The SRT4 is worth just as much as the 993TT to me and I believe it has a greater following than the 993TT (or 996GT2) as there are many more younger drivers who can relate to it as it is cheap and more attainable vehicle.
Why is value that important? For an enthusiast car ownership is about being passionate about a vehicle. Once you start discussing values, you devalue the worth of the car as people decide not to use or drive them and treat them instead as investments. I have far better ways of making money than worrying about the value of the cars I own. I own all of them for another purpose and it's certainly not monetary.

Russell Arundell joins the forum in Aug 2017 just to post on a 7 year old thread that the 996GT2 has a greater following and is worth more than the 993TT? Why does this matter anyway? Is this the definition of a troll or what?

You're using market value to evaluate following? There are very few in the market for a 92 964 turbo S lightweight yet they sell for around $1.5mm vs a 92 964 turbo at $90-120k. It's about quantity produced. The 996GT2 is a rare bird and IMO a bargain right now considering their rarity. If they had such a huge following they would be fetching a bit more.
