That suggests something isn't right. Ambient or cooled air comes into the car through the vent at the base of the windscreen so should be very much odor-free. Heated air is drawn in to the left of the intercooler and pushed forward through the heat exchangers - unless there's a tear in one of the orange hoses under the engine and/or a cracked heat exchanger the air should also be odor-free. Long gone are the days when engine cooling air was used to heat the car.

Valentine 1, (get over the "5 over" thing, trust me) mine has even saved me in areas where I was only going 5-10 over.

By the way, take 40 through Nashville to Little Rock then head south to Dallas on 1-30 to see your friend. Stop in Nashville and i will meet you for lunch or a beer if you spend the night.

There is a good chance I will be making a 2800 mile trip in a 993 TT in the coming weeks.
Heres my plan so far:
1. Blue painters tape for mirrors, front bumper and hood, leading A pillar edges, rear wheel well fronts, and leading edge of rear wing.
2. Spare DME relay and spare alt/fan belts
3. 3 quarts of oil (M1 15w-50 or some Brad Penn/Swepco 20w-50 if i can find it)
4. Battery for remote
5. Some basic hand tools
Any other things you guys recommend?
Thanks

blue painters tape
Nice to hear that other people also use the blue MMM painters tape. I have taken several trips from Salt Lake City, Utah, to the east coast several times in my older BMW Alpina six series B 10 3.5 and always use use painters tape on the front spoiler. It is cheap, does the job, but really makes a difference in the condition of the spoiler and graphics when you are clicking along at 80mph trying to maintain the 1000 mile per day pace.
But to be honest, I am not sure that I could maintain a 1000 mile per day pace in the 993TT. Maybe that is because of speeding temptations and jail time....
Good luck and hope you don't run into any sand storms along the way....but that is another story.

Okie dokie folks, I'm almost home. I'm currently in knoxville and will make it back to NJ tomorrow night.
I decided not to tape up the front end as its not in perfect shape anyway.
The weather has been generally good, but its been cold (as low as 5 degrees f in albuquerque) and there was some snow up there.
Drove from dallas to knoxville today and it was very uneventful.
I have a few newb questions though, so I'm throwing that into a new thread.

oookay, I am home.
Averaged 71mph, and 22.9mpg. About 44 hours total travel time.
Pretty uneventful really.
No speeding tickets, although I got a talking to from a texas state trooper for 7mph over. The guy literally pulled a grass median u turn to yank me. Either way, I kept it to 10 over at most.
