yes Sir[/QUOTE]
2WD conversion, short version:
buy parts
remove torque tube, front differential, front half shafts
Install new parts
install new trans mount
All in all, it isn't really too hard to do.
Hope that helps!

2WD conversion, short version:
buy parts (less than $700 in parts from Porsche required)
remove torque tube, front differential, front half shafts
Install new parts
install new trans mount

Keep in mind you need the facility to work on the wheel carriers -- torquing axles requires 400+ ftlb meaning an inch drive bar etc. Not household garage tools. Getting clearance to remove the torque tube requires a pretty well lifted car and some maneuvering. I seem to recall lowering the snout of the transaxle to get enough space. There's one special part for the 2WD shift box (which I have bolted in, but some choose to weld.) It's at the higher end of the home DIY scale, but easily done in the course of an easy weekend. A competent 993 shop would/should be able to get the job done in about four hours plus an alignment.
I think the 2WD conversion is well worthwhile and an excellent opportunity to go to RS front wheel carriers (or a kit from somewhere like Jerry Woods) as well as a short shifter, also an excellent opportunity to pop in a lightweight flywheel and a fresh clutch, etc. A great way to freshen up a ten plus year-old car and sharpen the handling. Also a good opportunity to replace by-pass valves and generally check the undercarriage for wear and tear.

great points on the hub bolts and shift box.
You could also do the majority of the work and get the axle bolts/nuts tight (install with whatever method you used to take them off) and then ask the shop that does the CB/align to torque them for you.
It does take some hefty stuff... 3/4" drive and very long, expensive torque wrench. IIRC, the spec is around 360 ft lbs. Important bolts there
hmm... the quote thing on the forum is broken now. Neat. It put my post as yours, and didn;t handle yours properly

I bought my shift box, tube, grommet, clips, RS short shift parts from Viper Bob.
you can also buy the front shaft replacement parts from VB.
These are all Porsche parts so once you have the part # you can order from the dealer in Manila (Mandaluyong City ). Let me know if you want the part #'s.
you can buy the trans mount from MarkD. I dont know if anyone makes this part. I am having one made.

Thanks for the compliments!
My dog ate it?
Sounds like you may disagree but we didn't find it necessary. It is plenty rigid.
If someone needs it (for track purposes) we can certainly make a solid mount, though it obviously adds a significant amount of noise/vibration to the cabin.
Are you asking about the 2WD conversion?

As for Bob, in the example of a 993, he's a hands-down expert ( ... almost knows as much as me ... : ) and in the case of the 2WD conversion for an AWD 993, he has a kit of all the parts and he knows the job, so it's easy to recommend him.
I'm sure there's other Rennlist sponsors who've done the conversion job, but I believe Bob was the first guy to discover the factory part number for the 2WD shifter box and put the whole puzzle together, so when I notice the AWD-to-2WD conversion topic recur, I tend to chime in since it's sort of a personal favorite.
Full disclosure: I used to be a business partner with Bob in two Porsche shops years ago. He moved to Florida and I stayed in California (retired.) I encourage people to work with their local selling dealer, their preferred local independent shop or their preferred Rennlist sponsor (in that order.)

Just installed mine. The difference is quite noticeable--the drivetrain is definitely moving around less. Shift action is more precise.
There is slightly more NVH, roughly the same magnitude as converting from stock to RS engine mounts. I have the RS flywheel, so most of what I hear is gearbox rattle being transmitted during decel.
Highly recommended. Thanks Darin and Mark!
