Highest mileage on a 3.8L Engine
We all know 3.8 L twin plugs makes more power than stock engine. But how reliable are all the upgraded internal components compare to OEM engine. Can you guys post the mileage you have on your rebuilt 3.8L engine.

It is heat which kills these engines so a 3.6/3.8 which runs the same temperatures as stock will last just as long. We all know what causes excess heat and it is boost which will lead to oval cylinders and trashed heads.
The best example of two extremes on here is probably my engine for conservative maximum low boost hp ~580 and Jussi's at the other end with ~680+hp. As Jussi always says he uses his right foot to modulate how long his engine will last.....

Andial 3.8 conversion done at 62K. Signs of head lifting at 102K, so had heads welded. Did a top end rebuild because it was open, but didn't really need it. Bottom end was sound, except for some cracked oil rings without symptoms, which I'm told is common for all 993 engines. 114K now and running great.

What were the signs that the heads were lifting?

Evidently the signs of compression leakage were very subtle. I didn't see anything, but Schnieder Autohaus spotted it while installing my new UMW clutch. I'm at the track once a month, so I'd guess about 4000 track miles in 3 years.
