The cams are a completely new design for those of us that like to preserve the low end power for daily driving. Building new cams is a pain as I've come to find out; they took a lot longer than we expected (there was also some personal/health-related delay on the cam specialist's side).

Yep, I'm used to the time it takes to do something new. I've been waiting almost 9 months for a custom intake manifold for my built motor for the Elise; that car has been gone 2 years!

Fantastic work, the motor is a piece of mechanical art! My motor took 1.5 years to be completed including tuning time, so this is a quick snap in comparison. Patience will pay off, and I'm sure you can't wait. Keep us posted!

Update:

After fitting the final cams, the pistons needed a bit of tweaking for valve clearance. I believe they should now be back with Kevin, so, I'm hoping the motor will be assembled soon

While waiting for the motor, I had Cantrell Motorsports do some upgrades, mainly on the suspension and safety equipment for the track.

For the suspension we changed out all the bushings to monoballs along with better shock mounts in the back as well as the rear sub-frame solid tilt mounts.

For safety, we replaced the DAS roll bar with a custom weld-in bar. Also added a fire system. And, I had the driver's seat harness holes modified so they are no more than the allowed 3" apart for my HANS device; I always had problems with the shoulder harness wanting to slip off the HANS...

The rear seat will be gone and replaced by a custom carpet. Cantrell is also fabricating a nice shelf behind the passenger seat for my data logging equipment.

Below are some photos:

Here she is, being poked and prodded, sans her heart:

Wow,
You're doing some serious work and I applaud to that you've also included safety into your plans. That's going to be a nice 993!

Pete, why modify the seat holes? Your 3" seat belts should not be slipping if your Hans has the small lip at the shoulder level (like all the new devices do)

As to the fire extinguishing system, since you are at it, ask them to install aluminum hoses/ducts that lead to the spray nozzles in the engine bay rather than the usual rubber ones, mine melted with the fire in the engine bay and became useless. FIA moved away from rubber as well if I am not mistaken.

Good to see the progress, seems like you are building yourself a hardcore track car. Will you be keeping the rear windshield wiper and stock everything outside? With the power that you will have and the upgraded suspension you might be needing additional downforce. It's a vicious circle.

The problem is that the GT3 seats space the the harness holes too far apart so the belts are never completely in the groove at the back of the HANS. That's the main difference between HANS compliant seats and and non-compliant seats, the distance between the shoulder harness holes.

Indeed. Have a look at the photos above and you'll see all aluminum piping

Vicious it is... I am all to familiar with it This all started with a missed shift trying to collect 60 to 150 times ...

Actually, it is not intended to be a "hardcore" track car, I have an Elise for that purpose. It will continue to be a dual street/track car; but a little more biased to the track than before

I had Colin did the exact same things to my car along w/ KW V3 several months ago and oh boy what a difference. Now the car accelerate straight as an arrow upon full boost.

My 3.8L project got a bit delayed for a few reasons, the main one being the economy, but we're moving full steam ahead on reassembly now! Yee Haa! I can't wait to drive it... it's been gone for over a year and a half now I miss it dearly!

We just had CMS in AZ rebuild and beef up the transmission (and changed first gear to 3:1 so it will actually be useful!). Beefed up the LSD with RS discs and added the oil squirters for the gears along with a pump and oil cooler. Here is some fine transmission ****:

Here is one of the final pistons, after 3 trips to the machinist to get the perfect valve clearance for the custom cams:

And a couple of shots of the motor assembly:
