Default Oil leak from rt turbo:crying:

So I noticed an oil leak after I got my car out to Atlanta. It is a slow drip coming from the right turbo. I needed to get the oil changed anyway so while it was there, I had them do a leak down. My numbers are 5,5,5,6,6,5 in order and cold. We pulled the inlet to the turbo and there was a bit of oil in it. The car has just over 29,000 miles.

What should I do? I don't want to throw a bunch of money at it, but wouldn't mind a few more HP if it is going to cost the same as the stock stuff.

Thanks

Tom,

You may simply need to change the oil filters (be sure to use OEM Porsche, not Mahle), or perhaps change out the oil lines for the type with the built-in check valve (available from Kevin). With your low mileage (you do cool your turbos, right?), I'd try both of those things before I'd replace the turbos. But, if those turbos do need replacement, then Kevin's stage 1 turbos cost little more than the stock rebuilds.

Your car is looking great!

Are you sure its your turbo? Lower valve gasket leaks sometimes give the appearance of a leaking turbo.

They pulled Mahle filters out of the car and put Porsche ones in. Maybe it'll clear up? I'll give the check valves a try, but will that help with oil in the inlet? I do cool the turbos, but you never know what the PO did. By the looks of the leakdown numbers and the checking the mechanic did, it appears to be a well taken care of example. Anyone know the price of a stage one right off hand?

We cleaned the area pretty good. There were three of us looking and the consensus was turbo. Like I mentioned the inlet had a bit of oil.

i would run it on the new filters and put the check valves in clean it with some brake cleaner run it and see, your turbos might not be the problem, perhaps an oil overfill, i had a bad experience with this a while back, good luck, btw kevin has a stage one for sale he recently posted it

Where is that post? My problem started before the oil change, so I'm fairly convinced its the turbo.

I thought the leakdown numbers had to be done on a hot/warm engine not a cold one to get an accurate reading.

Like I have written many times, if you change your oil and have sprung a leak. Most likely than not, Mahle filters were used on your oil change..

Guys, change your oil yourselves... If not order the filters from Porsche and hand them to your mechanic.

Clean out the oil in your intake ducts and most likely your I/C.

The oil leak actually started BEFORE the oil change, after I got the car out to Atlanta. The only thing I can think of is that the higher air pressure here was just enough to force a little oil past the Mahle filter. Since the oil change and the Porsche filters were put on the car, there has not been a drop on the floor. I just pulled the inlet hose and there was just a film of oil in there, but not nearly as much as when we pulled it at the shop. Just residual maybe? The impeller looked great. Nice silver color, no sign of oil cooking on it. Any ideas?

Tom,

Whew... you likely dodged a (Mahle) bullet there. Sounds like you will be just fine. Sorry... no upgrade for you!

I know! I was kinda excited about the stage 1. Glad she's (hopefully) OK though.

Pull your I/C and check for oil.. You can gauge how much you are leaking. At higher elevation the turbochargers are working harder.

BTW, a new center section is $895.00
