Vincent,

I'm not sure that you can't do this with the original (or aftermarket) mufflers in their original position... its been so long since I've seen a TT with mufflers I'm not sure. But... if you can make a 90 degree bend after the muffler toward the center of the car, you can then run short straight tube to the center, and then a simple 90 degree to the tips. I'm just not sure if there is enuff room after the muffler to make that first 90. Keep in mind that the Ruf bumpers are a bit "longer" than stock, and need a longer exhaust tip to get out nto the opening. So there may be more room than you can see with your stock bumper.

I enquired about this at Ruf DE. Was told that they stopped offering these because they were too expensive and too noisy.

Too expensive I can understand but not too noisy. The center exhaust cars used the Ruf mufflers and just re-routed the pipe out the center instead of the sides.

I'm just telling you what I was told. I dropped the subject purely because of the "too noisy" comment. I was already having problems passing the noise test all UK tracks enforce with my Andial mufflers. Even on 105 db days I've had problems. I've been warned a lot at one track and black-flagged for noise at another. Getting on tracks here, and staying there the whole day, was just more important to me than this mod.

Default noisier

The reason ruf CTR and/or turbo r's with center exhaust are noiser is due to their external wastegate turbo setup. Those things scream like mean lemans style racers. In all honesty, I wish my car had external wastegates.

fully agree with the external wastegate to noise relation.
from within the car though, the whisteling noise of the opening wastegate can get annoying at times....

eclou,

Those wheels look nice and their lightweight is a plus. I hate to say this, however... your big reds now look a bit on the small side now. See? The madness never stops!

What size/brand tire did you use?

Right now I am using stock 997 sizes - 235/35/19 front and 305/30/19 rear. The F/R ratio is about 4% off from stock which worries me. I will be changing the fronts to 245/35/19 which will correct the ratio to 3% off from stock, which I hope is within tolerances. Tires are Michelin PS2's

Can you elaborate on this because i am running stock 997 sizes as well does this translate into loss of performance?

Sebastian,

eclou is stating that the tires have a 4% different rolling diameter, front to rear, with the fronts spinning about 4% faster than the rears. The question is raised... what does this do to the viscous coupler, which may like the tires having less of a difference. I have "heard" that 5% is the max tolerable, but have never heard what the ideal difference is (is it 0%?). Having too great a difference can lead to premature wear of the coupler.

But he also says that this is 4% different than the stock size. This is NOT correct. These tires are both quite a bit "taller" than the stock (18") size. This raises the center of gravity a tiny bit, and THAT may negatively affect the handling. My tires are 255x30x19 and 315x25x19, and these have a very small difference, front to rear, and both are also about the same overall diameter as the stock 18" tires.

Steve 4% is not the difference in height, just difference in ratio F:R from stock. The ratio is what stresses the diff. The marginal increase in ride height I can adjust with the coilovers. I just don't want to kill the diff
