Default twin front mocal oil cooler with fan diy

I wanted to add an oil cooler to go with my recent larger turbos. Flying Fin has a good diy on p-car and the diy section.
I wanted to make sure I could use the stock lights (the fittings can get in the way). So, I used low profile 'Forged' fitting and use a 13 row Mocal instead of the 16 row that Flying Fin used, with a spacer to mount the coolers a little lower to allow the lights to clear. I've heard of how guys were sometimes turning on their AC to get better cooling (using the ac fan to also cool the aux oil cooler). So, I decided to mount fans on my twin oil coolers. I can turn them on with a toggle switch also when in traffic.
Here's my parts list (all bought from BAT www.batinc.net/main.htm)
Parts list:

A 13 A 12 HD 235 matrix x 2 units

Hose Aeroquip FC333 part # FC3-12 (for AN 12 fittings) 20 feet - probably only need 10 feet or so, I bought more so I could practice but didn't need much for practice.

90 degree hose end – Forged
12 AN T90-12F x4

Straight hose end
TS-12 x1
+
AN male x AN metric male
AM30AN12 x1


180 degreee hose end
T180-12
+
metric female x AN male
AF30AN12 x1


Aluminun Vice Inserts (Vice Jaws)
AVJ1R x1

Adjustable Aluminum hose wrench (a low profile crescent wrench would work just as well - was only good for preventing me from over-tightening the fittings due to its small size)

Koul Tool - 12

Cooler mount 235 (ended up not using these!)

Couple of points:
The hose is pretty stiff and cannot be twisted - so have to be quite careful of how the fittings are finally positioned on the hose.
The aluminum bumper has to be taken off to tighten the fittings on to the oil coolers.
I used a dremel cut off wheel to cut the hose, and the "Koul tool" really made putting the fittings on the hose easy.
I also just use a pair of tin snips to cut the aluminum shroud medial to the top of the stock oil cooler (and bent the cut piece up) to make space for the new hoses that go to the oil coolers without removing the shroud (hard to remove!) or removing the stock oil cooler.
I glued the aluminum brackets I made for the fans onto the coolers using high temp silicon adhesive/gasket material.

Despite trial fitting many times, to get the coolers and fittings to clear the light housing, I had to mount the coolers quite medial and that made space behind the plastic bumper limited, I ended up having to trim the black plastic louver material medially and also trim off the tabs that hold them on for the coolers to fit.

Enjoy - spent most of the weekend doing this. Will post on how it all holds up. It was a lot of fun, enjoyed it very much.

not sure yet about these ducts and lights but put them back on for now, toggle switch for the fans...

Very cool!!! It's nice to see some tt owners get their hands dirty. I've run Mocals on my other track car and they have been trouble free. My buddy did a very similar setup on his tt as well. Better (and cheaper) alternative to turbo S and GT2 oil coolers imo

Very clean install as well

Thanx guys! Thinking about it some more, since I had to trim the black 'louvers', I'm going to replace it with some aluminum mesh that I've seen some people use. Plan to paint it flat black as well.

Wonderful and inspiring work, but after all these years do you still recommend the same setup or is there
a better way to go nowadays?

I guess the regular route is to use the car graphic or ruf coolers, fvd has twin coolers on their site, similar to mine. I've seen a custom center mounted one which I think required modification of the front tub, posted here somewhere. Can't really say which is better, mine's been great, keeps temps down very well and have not had any problems since I installed it after many track days!
Only comment would be that sometimes if the temp valve opens while cruising on the hwy, I think the temp may drop too low, it would be nice to have a way of controlling that valve or a way to use one cooler at times, but that may be getting too complicated.
