Default 96 TT - 36k - 1 owner - $71k good deal?

Blue/tan. Excellent condition. All maintenance history, original sticker, etc.

1 owner in CA.

No mods except stereo. That can be fixed.

What do you think??

My only thoughts would be at 37k its going to need a clutch and various other "wear" items for an almost 12 year old car.

Jason,

Some of us can get 200,000 miles on a clutch... its the driver, not the car. If the shocks are original, they will have to be replaced, and most folks go for an upgrade in this department. Figure a minimum of $3k installed, unless you go with higher-end suspension parts. Everything else should be handled by good, routine maintenance. Check the steering rack for leaks, and all the usual bits. There is a thread on "the ultimate PPI" that describes things that need to be checked.
Good luck.

I am familiar with the suspension upgrade and the PPI.

I guess what I am looking for is people's opinions on the pricing of this vehicle, assuming its in top condition.

Thanks.

71k is ok, but 68k would be more like it imo.

Price is $70k.

My only fear is this car probably needs a clutch. Maybe needs new oil lines, turbos? Absolutely needs a new suspension.

Thats costly updates for a car that would sit in my garage for the next 5 months!

Did you get a PPI yet? If not, get that, find out what it definitely needs or doesn't need, and work on the price from there.

Probably a good idea.

I'd recommend negotiating a price before the PPI. I paid for an extensive PPI on a 993 a few years back only to find the seller was either highly delusional or very unmotivated to sell. He refused to budge from his very high asking price, and I was out the PPI money.

I just negotiate the price and make it clear that it's conditional on a perfect PPI. If the PPI finds something serious you can renegotiate or walk away.

I'd pay a small premium for a 1-owner car, but $70K still seems high.

This seller sounds like they are pretty firm at the $70k price? Thus, I think it will be difficult to negotiate a lower price without performing a PPI and finding out what the car needs. After that, then you as the buyer can point out that the car does need suspension, or turbos or clutch, etc, and then hopefully you can dictate the price you want to pay for it. Anyhow, good luck with it. I will be interested to hear what happens.

Good advice to negotiate a price first and then adjust for ppi results. If it needs a clutch and turbos now, $70k might be a bit high. Figure $2.5k for rebuilt stock k16s plus install labor and $2k for clutch parts plus 8 - 10 hours of labor. Oil lines are approx. $300. Good luck. I like the color combo.

Ok, a local graciously did a physical inspection on this car for me. It appears it need a few items. Let me know if you have any thoughts on what it take to take care of:

1) 4" curb rash on wheel
2) Rear windshield gasket replacement
3) Rear bumper 2" gash. May need skin and repaint. Maybe just fill and touch up.

Thanks!

1 Probably $200 to repair if it's not bent
2 Why?
3 No biggie, $500 - $700 to repair and shoot the bumper
