Default Ruf and the CT2R Sport

Recently I have decided to move up the food chain and start to look to buy a 993TT. I am mainly interested in a modified one but not sure yet as its early days still- I even thought of getting one with a stock engine and putting my RS 590HP TT engine in it.
Anyway on the look out I have seen the best of the best and that is the CT2R Sport, there are some vids on youtube with it racing against 962s and 935s...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrfdcGbI994

I know one for sale its very expensive but as long as it holds its value then it wont be a problem

For those who know or run a Ruf- what is it like to live with? Insurance (I have heard some companies not knowing what a Ruf is), parts etc my concern... with Ruf may not hold parts anymore etc... I guess some parts are still porsche - the body work i.e fenders & bumpers are the main issue if you have a crash. I would want to use it and not have it in a musem.

Pics here looks like the racing version with front spiltter and extended tail etc.

If anyone has any more techical info & specs on the CT2R Sport please let me know.
Cheers

That's Steve B's car. And he is also a very good shoe. You should just call Ruf. They have lots of parts and if they don't, they make them....very expensive though. I think Ruf Dallas has a CTR2 for sale at the moment. I understand the market is in the USD$250,000 range. So w/the Euro that's not too bad. For what its worth, I think Ruf vin cars will hold their value as they are works of art and very few in number.

Miles, sorry, a bit off topic, but did you buy your car from Jean?

Speaking of Ruf (also slightly off topic), they are launching the CT3 here in Bahrain on the 11 April at the opening of their new factory!!!! I got an invite Didn't mean to hijack the post, just a bit excited....

MIles

The CTR2 Sport is basically a wider version of the RUF CTR2 with different gearing, and there were 13 ever produced with RUF VIN, so the exclusivity is guaranteed. The bodywork is fantastic, not as aggressive as the car in the picture above, which is track prepared, but beautiful nevertheless.

Horsepower has been increased from 520BHP to 580BHP on the Sport version and is managed by a TAG ECU. I heard that some of the Sport versions have been since changed to Motronic. RUF is currently doing 580BHP upgrades to CTR2 models based on Motronic, with somewhat increased compression and boost.

They come wit 360mm Carbon brakes discs front and rear, and 285/35Fr and 325/30 Rr tires on 19" wheels. It seems like it is built around a widebody chassis unlike the CTR2 which is a narrowbody. As a result, the front and rear track are quite wider than the normal CTR2 version, by about 2.4 inches in the front and by almost 5 inches in the rear (+3" vs. 993TT). It is in fact slightly wider than the 993GT2, but with better aerodynamics as usual in RUF cars.

The gearing is the following:

1st....3.15 vs. 3.82 for stock 993TT
2nd...1.79 vs. 2.15
3rd....1.27 vs.1.56
4th:...0.97 vs 1.21
5th:...0.76 vs. 0.94
6th.... 0.60 vs.0.75

So it has taller gearing than a 993TT, and add to that the much taller tires. High performance turbos are better off with tall gearing. For the track you can just swap the R&P and get the right shorter gearing if needed. The car is also taller than the stock 993TT which gives it also better stability.

With all that being said, I believe the amount of money needed to buy one of them is outrageous, I would rather have an original 993GT2 and drop your RS tuning engine in it, abuse it, and then swap back to the stock engine when you want to sell. You wil be certain it will keep its value. Or simply buy a 993TT and do the bodywork on it from RUF or DP Motorsports, and use your RS engine.

To be honest this video does not impress me the least, even less so the ones that I have seen on youtube since they have been edited to show the CTR2 passing all sorts of less powerful Porsches that any modded 993 would just as well pass...

The bodywork, aerodynamics and IRC transform these cars into gorgeous machines, that will most likely hold their value if you ahve a lot of time in your hands to sell it, but where would you park it in London?

Ziad: Yes its Jeans ex, a great car esp with all the mods

Jean: Thanks for the info and ideas, I even thought of buying an RS and dropping the engine in that and modding the body for turbo/GT2.

The current rate for any CTR2 is high, I saw a non sport for 200k Euros as well. Still like you say thats the going rate and wouldnt loose value when... sorry IF you would to sell it

Ill contact Ruf and see if they could supply the parts for the Sport, I was surprised to see the front CTR2 look bumper was only 1600Euro.

I have seen that car in person and it is very impressive. The owner is a really nice guy and always took time to answer your RUF questions... Miles, does this mean your 964 turbo is for sale?

I think there are 2 in the rear 3/4 panels behind the wheels - one for each cylinder bank.

Met and rode with SB at BIR in the CTR2 - all I can say to this day is HOLY CHIT!
In the category of street/track reliability and scary fast nothing come close in terms of raw power and purpose. The RUF is truly a work of engineering art - he takes the Porsche philosophy to another level.
I should add that Steve and the Beddor family are a class act.

I cannot really add anything more. The car's owner is my old roomate and friend Steve B
as mentioned. He is THE world expert on the car since his family has had several (thats right
several CTR2 Sports). It is near impossible to get Her Alois on the phone so I would suggest contacting me and I will put you in touch with Steve as he has direct contact and connections in
the World of RUF. Also, my friend and Rennlister here (LAT) owns a RUF CTR2 and has had it
completely refurbished in Germany at RUF. He could tell you a thing or two as well.
EMAIL me at martymillworksolutions@yahoo.com

I will get you in contact with Steve.
