993 Turbo differences!
What kind of TT to aquire ??
J have been told that Porsche had the G64/20 gearbox in all US-cars up until
may 1997. From that time on the G64/21 box was installed in all turbos worldwide.
I have owned the 993 4S, both an american version and a german one.
The american version was dull to drive in comparison to the german one.
The german car accelerate much faster due to shorter gears.
If the same gearbox diffrences are true to the turboes I would highly reccomend
turboes from may 1997 onwards.

I can find no evidence of different gearing between US and ROW in the 993tt, unlike the 993NA. Here are the ratios from my US service manual, please give feedback if you have the ROW info: 1-3.818, 2-2.150, 3-1.560, 4-1.212, 5-.973, 6-.750

I'm with Don (911/Q45). I've never heard of ANY factory optioanl gearing for the 993 TT. But my opinion, along with 50 cents, can get you a cup of senior coffee at McDonalds!

993 Turbo differences
I don't really know much about this, being a '96 C4S owner, and a '97 993 TT wannabe, but I read somewhere, I know not where, that after the '96 year, the first gear on the turbo was beefed up. All those highg rev drop the clutch takeoffs I suppose. So, I'm now looking for a '97 so I can cheerfully do the same.

Richard,
Good luck with your search. The beefier first gear is not a rumor... its a fact. However, neither the 96 nor 97 can stand up to an abusive drag race launch. Most of us never do that to our cars, so the difference is not significant.
