Question avatar help

The lack of activity on this board makes me think its OK to post this request. Yes, I've searched the archives, but I need really simple directions for an old geezer. Type really slowly.

I have a nice .jpg on my desktop that I'd like to make into an avatar. Do I need to be a Rennlist member to have an avatar? Do I need some website somewhere to send this to?

Can somebody help me? I promise... its a really cool picture.

First, upload your picture to rennlist. You'll get a URL, which you need to save.

To set this URL as your avatar:

a) Log into rennlist, go to your profile section
b) In the Avatar Image settings, click "Select a different avatar image"
c) Copy/Paste the URL above in the "Use Custom URL" box, click "Set URL"
d) Click "Select This avatar". Don't worry about how it displays on this screen. It's differnt on the acutal postings.
e) Close that window and return to your profile settings
f) Save your profile settings by clicking on "Update Profile"

Jeff,

Good instructions. But it does appear that I need to be a Rennlist member (not merely a Rennlist mooch) to upload a picture. OK, I've been meaning to do this anyway. Here goes my budget.

Ooops. I can't seem to get paypal or credit cards to work... I think there may be a problem with the security settings here at work and our firewall. I'll try this at home later (if my kids will let me on the computer).

If you want, you can email me the pic and I'll upload it to rennlist for you.

Jeff,

I've just sent you a .jpg via email, and I've managed to join Rennlist. When do I get a member number so I can upload pictures?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Thanks Jeff. I'm still waiting for my official status to change to the "Rennlist Member". Meantime, lets see if I have an avatar.

Hmmmm. I can see the little avatar in my profile when I say "Update profile". When I go back, however, its gone!

I think I figured it out...

Here's the updated link:

<a href="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/sharpRSR.jpg" target="_blank">http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/sharpRSR.jpg</a>

Just follow the directions on the previous post. The problem was that the old file had the wrong extension. ( jpeg vs jpg ). The jpg worked.

Well, now the avatar shows in my profile but still won't display. Looks good on your posts though. Drats. Maybe when my membership status changes? How long does that take?

OK, now that I've got my new avatar working, I'll describe the photo. That's the 1982 Riverside IMSA 6 hour enduro. That's me driving car 53, my 2.7 liter RSR running in GTU. I'm about to get passed by Jim Busby in a factory 935. He finished 37th. My team finished 9th overall, and 3rd in GTU (but ahead of all the GTO cars).

Thanks for the help!
