Smile losing the AWD

Guys,
I've been thinking about losing that AWD setup for a while now. My mechs say they can do it in a day... i.e. lose the prop and diffs in front.
The obvious gains are 150kg reduction and less push on the track.

Am I crazy?... has anyone done this before?

the weight saving is more like 50kg.......

It depends what you are after ultimately.
Why not disconnect the 4wd for a while & see if you like it.?
It only requires 2 bolts to be undone.

I have had my car in 2wd for a month now. (doing dyno runs before and after power upgrade)

*personally * I prefer it as 4wd
cheers

To do it right takes more than a day! You need to remove the tranny and put the other nose cover on it, come up with a different shifter (GT3 or sorts) and attach it to the tunnel. You will also need to run DME stubs in the front axels. A couple a days worth of work to do it right. <img border="0" alt="[typing]" title="" src="graemlins/yltype.gif" />

Is the drivetrain stong enough to handle being RWD since it was designed as AWD?

I suspect that, in aggressive driving, having 2wd will be EASIER on the drivetrain in that there will be less traction, it will be easier to light up the tires, etc.

Hi:

Joe S is right on,................there is less much less stress on the tranny when the wheels can spin much easier (which they will do).........

darn...
i was under the impression that the prop shaft, diffs and drive shafts would weigh in a little more than 50kg
i was hoping the inherrent awd mute in the steering feel would go away
