Andial 3.8L

Has anyone driven or had any experience with the Andial 3.8L 993TT? How does it compare to a heavily modified 3.6 993TT like the Ruf turbo R conversion? Also how is the reliability factor?

Thanks in advance,

Amir

Amir,

Jim Brady has run his car against the Andial 3.8 at Willow Springs. I'm sure he would love to talk to you about it. I don't know much about the car, other than what was published in the Excellence magazine article.

By the way, Ruf makes an even faster Turbo R on special order. In can only be done in Germany. It's rated at 550 HP. I suspect that car may be faster than the Andial car. It's an extensive engine rebuild, including (but not limited to) titanium connecting rods, new cylinder heads, new turbos, new exhaust system and new motronics.

I suspect Ruf also offers a special kit for the 996TT. Perhaps with even higher performance.

I may go for the 993TT Ruf special within the next year or so. I really love the 993TT concept. I'm still not bored after owning the car since 1997, except for a power boost every few years! I've driven the car over 40,000 miles from -200 feet to 10,000 feet, from 20 degrees to 110 degrees, with 91 octane to 100 octane. I never noticed anything unusual. In my opinion, the 993TT is the most reliable high performance car available today. I think we'll start to see its value go up. With its limited production, you don't see many for sale, and rarely see one on the street. Personally, I would still be willing to pay $100K for a 993TT in showroom condition. In fact, some cars in that condition are selling for near that price!

Amir,
If you goto www.andial.com you can read up on a good article on the Andial tweaked 993TT

Bill and Sameer,

Thank you for your input. I actually have the excellence article, I was just wondering if anybody had a personal experience with the car.

I guess Jim is the man to talk to.

Best Regards,

Amir

Hi Guys,
I just saw my name mentioned and I thought I would chime in.
I have driven several Andial 3.8s in different configuations as well as track tested a modified 993tt 3.6 vs 3.8s. I've done some improptu acceleration will Bill S. RUF car and raced against a Bob Holcomb (Motorsports Design)motor 993tt. I know you didn't ask but I thought I'd put in my $.02.
The MODE car is the fastest street/track Porsche I've seen. 700hp,565 at the wheels. Not likely smog legal. I say by drag race figures this car would run in the 10:50s. Race car on the street.

Andial 3.8, big torque at low rpm works well with GT1 turbos, twin plug and programable ECU. Need to upgrade suspension with this combo as it will overpower the chassis. Low end acceleration on par with the RUF,
it is a tic quicker than the RUF turbo R low end. Will run easy 11:40s on Gtech. Some off throtle harshness below 2000 rpm. On short tracks it is awsome comming out of the corners. Not that big of advantage on high speed tracks like Daytona, Willow Springs or Road America.

Ruf Turbo, just ask Bill S. I think this is a great combo for the street or track with none of the downside that some of the other tunners offer. Ruf puts the power where you need it and it performs flawlessly. No harshness according to Bill. Well engineered and not a bunch of bolt ons like so many tunners. Rufs 490hp is like other tunners 550. The difference is RUF's dyno measures Clydesdales not quarter horses.

Part of the driving experience is what one intends to do with the up grades. Are you going to track the car? A big horspower 3.8 with stock suspension is dreadful combination. It's important to balance the car to make it user friendly.

I hope you can make it to the track day monday. I'm tsting a new spring shock setup for a tunner and we can chat.

Thank you Jim. Look forward to seeing you on Monday.

Do any of you guys have a sense of what an Andial 3.8L might be worth? I noticed one for sale at: http://www.thelastdetail.com/

Given the torque characteristics Jim describes, it could be fun around some of Colorado's lower speed tracks.
