Eric,
I have, and like them very much. Excellent quality, great sound, and no problems in two years.
I will warn you that the turbos have an inherent muffling effect, so the RSR's aren't quite as loud on full acceleration in our cars as in the NA models. But, it sounds awesome at idle. Burbly, and about 20% - 40% louder. No resonance on acceleration.

I would not recommend the RSR mufflers if you have or ever intend on running the cat bypass pipes in a street application.I made the mistake of doing this and was very unhappy with the resulting exhaust tone.Needless to say the RSR's were removed and Robin gladly took them back. The cat bypass remains on the car and sounds great.

Jeffry,
I have closely followed the previous threads on the cat bypass pipes for over a year. If you don't mind me asking, where did you source yours (FVD, Fabiani, custom)? Also, did you get a CEL, and if so, how did you get around the problem? Any other advice?
I still have my original mufflers, so I could easily switch back to them to avoid the yucky sound.
Thanks!

I've got the RSRs too and find them to be an excellent alternative to the stock mufflers. As Anir said, they sound good. Robin was VERY service oriented and provided extra parts to me and no cost. I purchased them as the Fabspeeds that came with my car were very loud. I intend to switch back and forth as I have a need for super loud.

I paid big $$ for the Cargraphic exhaust on my TT, soley to improve the sound over stock. Having heard a .wav file of the RSR's, they sound virtually identical. If improvement of sound is one's ONLY goal, the RSR's sound like a great deal.
I'm following the cat bypass discussions closely, as I'm getting a yearning to do it for further sound improvement and performance gain reasons (ECU is already modified). Also, I had a straight through, hollowed out cat in my 951 and it provided a very aggressive exhaust sound and greatly improved turbo spool-up.

The FVD cat bypass pipes on the 993 turbo do not add much to the loudness of the exhaust (in fact, very little) when using the stock mufflers, however, spool up, throttle response and acceleration are greatly improved. IMHO, the car runs much better!
Like Jeffery, I tried two different performance exhausts with the cat bypass pipes and the sound was awful with both (lets too much sound through -very loud and odd tone). I selected the advantages of the cat bypass pipes with the stock exhaust and was very happy with this arrangement.

I have RSR-like mufflers on my car. I'm not sure who made them, but the previous owner said they were similar to RSRs. I'm getting the FVD bypasses installed this Saturday, I'll report back.......

Agreed on the cost effective sound goal, but I can verify that the Cargraphic mufflers (which are actually manufactured in the UK) do the business in reducing back pressure which is needed if any boost increasing mods are carried out. I am not sure if the RSRs make any claims in this area. Incidently Cargraphic market 2 different types of muffler for the 993tt one being a "supersound" non TUV approved version. I have the normal version which are plenty loud enough with racing cats.

TB993TT, I have no idea which Cargraphic exhaust I have of the two you mentioned, is there any easy way to tell? It's probably the "normal version."
Also, I have to take my car to get smog tested in the next month, then it'll be another two years before it's tested again. I think I'm going to do the FVD bypass as well. Can't wait to hear your report Scott.

Thanks for the great input guys.
Sounds like RSRs will be OK for me, I don't want major sound, but just a bit more aggressive would be fine. Not into waking up the neighborhood when I get home. I remember when I was in college, I had a 260 Z and replaced the muffler with some straight exhaust system/pipes. That sucker was LOUD. When I wised up, reinstalled the muffler a few months later, the car was as smooth as glass. Sorry getting OT.
Is there any reason other than smog control issues not to get cat bypass? Eliminating cat converters should also reduce heat build up? That would be a good thing.
Ditto, I'm curious for your results Scott.

Hi Jeff,
You have the FVD cat bypass pipes.
Picture Here: FVD cat bypass pipes
As for the CEL, ***** Brombacher (FVD-Germany) instructed me to bend a certain pin on the ECU harness to prevent contact with the ECU. This supposedly tricks the ECU into not knowing anything is wrong. While prepping the car for delivery to you, I bent the pin back to original and re-connected the ECU, so that you would have a proper functioning ECU. If you do not have the CEL light, then either the bulb burned out on it's own or the bypass pipes are not triggering it for some reason. I never tried the pipes with the ECU fully connected, as I was told the CEL would display.
In retrospect, I think removing the bulb would be a much easier solution.
Now that you mention it, I think that I may have removed the bulb for you and placed it in the tray just before loading the car, as it is easier to undo than the bent pin hack. And this would explain why you do not have the CEL display.

Jeff,
It's great to hear you are enjoying the car so much. I cherished it when I had it and couldn't imagine anything better. I may be biased, but IMHO, the car you got was a great one.
In answer to your question.....I love the 996tt and find it a fantastic automobile in every respect. I have done a few mods and have the Techart 9-position "Vario" coil-over suspension and TA adj. sway bars scheduled for installation next week. I like the 996tt so much, I could see it as a keeper, much like many 993 owners feel. IMHO, it's that good. Plenty of road feel and sound for me, I even like the body style and the fried egg headlights The new GT3 sounds like a great choice, too!
Again, It's great to hear you are enjoying the car. The 993tt is a special experience.
