Did any of you guys register your cars with RUF? As I remember Ruf had told me to register the car I was looking at purchasing with them once I took ownership, and this was even for a non RUF VIN car.
Either way great list of RUF owners!

I have ridden in two of the above three cars.
All are RUF originals from Pfaffenhausen.
The gentleman that services my car also services these cars.
None of the gentleman are on Rennlist.
One of the guys is the WORLD'S authority on RUF cars and has driven
his car at events all over the world; He has driven around Daytona at 180 MPH,
raced (and beat) Viper race cars at Road America, done Brock's Cannonball, etc. etc.
His car is light and VERY fast.

Thnaks for the info, guys, and please keep it coming. I think I'm trying to specifically find the Ruf Rennlisters, but all the Ruf data is interesting. Are all CTRs RUF Vin? Or were there some conversions?

As mentioned the Beddor's black CTR was a conversion as far as I know. Anyone have different?

The original Steve Beddor AWD Street & Track AutoCross `YellowBird'. Alosis Rufs calls it his "Racecar" ! The original RUF `YellowBird' CTR was declared "the fastest Sportscar in the world" by Road & Track magazine. This 550hp, Twin-Turbo Steve Beddor, Ruf Rocket was the final culmination of the Series 1 CTR development. Awesome 200mph+, 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds. The lightweight, Aluminum/Kevlar bodied ShowCar, flown to Germany and was completely rebuilt from the platform (tub) in 1992-93 from his 1990 US 'Carrera 4' at a development cost of over $316K. With approximately 3,500 miles since RUF build - it is #1 of only 2 Ruf, All Wheel Drive, "YellowBirds". This black beast was recently listed again in the August 2006 Hemmings Motor News at auction. Said to be in Houston now.

I am 99% sure that the black car you speak of (SB's) old black car floating around the
wholesale world started out as a 89 Carrera 4. They had 2 black and 2 white and possibly
all have been converted in Pfaffenhuasen. I have pictures of my wife riding in that car.
At one time it said "The Ultimate" on the back spoiler of it. The CTR2 Sports I speak of
are of course different cars.

1996 RUF turbo R -conversion done in RUF factory when car was new. BLK/BLK/BLK. the car was "recertified" with an engine out dyno run in 2004 producing 529 hp at the RUF factory. Full RUF suspension, RUF big brakes, full CTR2 exaust with dual center exhaust outlets (the only non-CTR2 that ever was allowed to have this exhaust)
fully documented -all service done by RUF in Germany untill the vehicle was shipped to the US in 2004.

Purchased 9-22-2006 from a collector in Indiana. drove the car 500 miles to atlanta ga... had to put gas in it once.

i believe the "s" stands for sports chassis (integrated cage).. rain gutter removal :D

CTR was supposedly Group C (inspired) Turbo Ruf.......so he dropped the "Ruf" for "sport" :confused:

This is the problem Mr Ruf had, because he was trying to cover all bases and accomodate anyone who wanted to spend any money on his (expensive but mostly excellent) parts the actual specification of a car to become a "model" became a bit fuzzy - personally I see this as a good thing as it meant for example Leon could turn his "Turbo R" into something more unique and more potent than all the other "Turbo Rs" and SFY created that awesome yellow creature :evilgrin:
The models which I have owned/come accross which are "true" standard Ruf spec models are:
BTR
CTR
CTR2
RT12
All others are a mixture from the menu -and none the worse for it :thumbup:

Ima2nr, did I see your car in the paddock at the Monterey historics last month? There was a black 993tt, same wheels, yellow brakes and IC shroud, and a center exhaust just like the one in your pics, parked near turns 3-4, in the vicinity of most of the 935s. Also had an out-of-state plate but I don't remember which state . . . can't find the pic I took of it right now.

I just bought my RUF a few days ago... it was a toss up between the new Kia Sportage 'R' euro version or this... i hope I made the right choice. ;)

seriously, the P/O was from Indiana-- he was a serious vintage racer... in his garage he had a real 917 that was a Porsche factory team car, a Mclaren that won 3 races in the 1971 Can Am series, and a partial disassymbled ford GT40 (it was getting a fresh powerplant)... I would say this guy probably was flexing the RUF around the track too...

I took some "cell phone" pictures, but have no idea how to download / upload them... :(

RufMD sold his Rturbo a couple of months ago.........

looks like you have 36 ft lb more torque than my car made too....

the car is beautiful... is it factory body work or widebody?

for the extra ponies they changed to the 996 rturbo k24's, titanium conrods, 100 cell cats.,5 bar fuel press.regulator. bodywork is factory :cheers:

But Ruf built up some RCT Evo with 3.8, if the customer want to go to 3.8!

I've been talking to Wayne at Ruf Dallas, and he would enourage a "Rennlist Ruf Roundup" to be held at his facility perhaps in the Spring. He has access to a local race track that we could use (for a fee). No details are worked out, but I'd like to measure the interest in such an event.

Dr Joe (an old Ruf friend and new owner of a Ruf Caymen RKC), has also volunteered to help organize this event and perhaps a second event at the German AutoFest in Ventura in August. We may be able to get a Ruf sponsorship of some sort, and perhaps get Alois out to speak. We would probably get a special place for all the Rufs to park together.

I'd like to collect email addresses for all the Rennlist Rufaholics. I would only use that list to communicate details of any upcoming Ruf events.

Bump to suck in a local guy with an R Turbo. I just met him today.

Happy New Year to all. I have been the very fortunate owner of a 2002 Ruf Rturbo 550 conversion for the past year. In addition to the full 550 PS conversion, the car has the original Rturbo front air dam, rear spoiler, rear bumper, adjustable suspension, 19 in Ruf wheels, Ruf/Rturbo front and rear emblems, Ruf pedals and Rturbo door sills. No Ruf gauges or steering wheel- this car is a tiptronic.

22 so far. That is awesome. I know of one more in my area. RUF VIN R-Turbo Cab with Tips. Violet/blue color. I saw him at Carlsen's and at Laguna Seca. I don't think he is on RList though.

Steve thankyou man, its got the 590 exhaust, LW clutch and flywheel, headers and other upgraded goodies that the 550 doesnt have, including Moton's, GT3 seats and so on :)

BTW your 993 is absolutely beautiful, how do you like it? I'm still longing for one badly, but have an upcoming 997 GT3 coming in!!

I've heard that you can't register a Ruf Vin in either California or Canada. Is that true?

But overall just the 993TT in general i love, then being a RUF is even more special, just wondered your overall impressions of the 993TT experience opposed to other Porsche's you have driven.

I think we'll have to all meet at Mecca (Ruf in Dallas) and test drive each other's cars. A total Ruf immersion. I don't know how to compare a 993TT to a 996TT or a Turbo R with an R Turbo... I have no experience in the other cars. I'm almost (almost) afraid to drive an R Turbo... I'm so happy being happy with what I have... don't want to stir any pots.

Haha fair enough, just love getting feedback from others considering its hard to drive other RUF cars locally (Damn near impossible) and just other Porsche's in general considering they are pretty rare (993TT, GT2) and so on..

Rufus looks great!!!! it looks like the Ruf seats have some adjustabilty to them, which my new car does not have with the GT3 seats???

so i'm also considering changing them and going to the original turbo seats or would you recomend sticking to the Ruf theme?

Yes, the Ruf Sport seats can recline and flip forward. They even have an optional lumbar adjust (I didn't do that option). Ruf sport seats in leather are roughly $6500 for the pair. I got mine direct from the manufacturer (Konig... K5000g) for about half of that price. They do not have the Ruf logo, however. They are still expensive, but for me... trying to keep my car as close to 100% Ruf as practical, they are perfect. The Euro GT3 seats are also terrific for holding you in place, but are a pain in my very old arse for getting in and out of. Plus they do not recline or allow any access to the rear. If the GT3 seats are bothering you, they can be very easily sold for very good money. If you want nice Porsche seats, you have little choice but the Sport seats, which are very pricey... the standard Porsche seats (turbo or non-turbo... makes no difference) are very comfy, but not really "sporty" enough for the Turbo R's nature. But they are availabe second hand for very reasonable prices (lots available as people upgrade their seats).

There are lots of great seats out there. But for me, there was little choice but the Ruf seats.

Yours is probably the third BTR I know of in the U.S. They are rare.

I just read your other posts, yours is a 1993-964, mine is a 1995-993. Love your 3.8L engine though, and the Ruf VIN is just the ticket.

Add me to the list ... I just purchased a Silver/Black 2004 Cayenne Turbo RUF 550 "Dakara" conversion (New Turbos, Intercoolers, Air Filters, ECU Mapping, High-flow Sport Exhaust, 22" RUF Wheels). Number 2 of 4 (RUF 550) in the States (there is a CTT RUF 570 in NorCal). Total conversions (US) to date are 5.

Scary fast for a 5200 pound plus vehicle.

Nice to know I am not alone in my addiction. I hope to be able to join the "list" by the end of the year with a newly completed RCT Evo (small details left to complete - engine and the 6spd). I took a bunch of pics, but I shoot on "fine" so they are crazy big files that I can't upload here. As a substitute, just go find a pic of the hottest, nastiest chick you've ever seen in your life...I mean in your entire f'n LIFE...then imagine she is a car....That's what John drives!....no pic necessary! Yeah...a bit intimidating to say the least.....

You can use MS "Paint" to reduce the size of your files so they can be uploaded. Email me if you need help.

In case you guys forgot, Kevin is the owner of that black Ruf Turbo R that came from the RUF factory with the CTR-2 center exhaust... might be the only one out there like that. Well Kevin is certifiable, so he has poured a ton into his car to make it absolutely perfect (and I managed to get his old, crappy Ruf brakes for Rufus, while he went for the newest style). In any event, Kevin has had his car at Protomotive for some final tweaking (I'll let him tell you about the dyno results). Kevin had previously removed the CTR exhaust, and had a lightweight center exhaust fabricated. It droned pretty bad, so Todd add another loop and an equalizer tube. This should be California legal with CARB certified high-flow cats, and proper O2 sensors pre and post cat (oh wait... it seems to have two "pre-cat" sensors... huh?). Anyway, Kevin is too lazy to learn how to post pictures, so here's what he sent to me. First the previous "custom center exhaust", then 3 pix of the new system.

i forgot to tell you why so many O2 sensors.

I added an on board data logging system with dual widebands... those are the ones just before the cats.

I think John D Should make a RUF subcatogory so we can get to Ruf INFO quickly instead of using the search funciton which is hard to pin down.

Roland seems to be another llazy guy who needs me to post his pictures. He is recently back from the Nevada Open Road Races in his Turbo R. I asked him how he did, and here is his reply:

I am buying a 1995 c2 btr ruf. Can anyone suggest a front bumper as ruf does not make their bumper for this car anymore. I hate what the c2 bumper looks like that is on it now. Thank you all in advance.

Mr Pong has a BTR with a very cool bumper. Maybe he'll respond, or you can page back a bit and find his photos. You can also go with a Turbo bumper and add the "S" spoiler lip to it. I'll bet there are other interesting bits available in the aftermarket. I thought that Ruf was "temporarily" out of stock on their CTR bumper.

Well I don't have a RUF but I get my 944 serviced there. Pay a bit more but at least two of there tech's and one of the owners have 944's and know everything about them. Funny thing is last time I was there we found out that there lead tech worked on my car before I owned it.

Thank you. Yes I bought the silver car at ruf. They are almost finished rebuilding the engine. I am having a light weight fly wheel installed. Ruf sterring wheel, sparco seats, rs door panels, short shift , and new tires ect. ect. I went for a ride in waynes car and really loved it. When you have time I would like to hear about your btr.Thank you.

Today I went to vist my in many pieces btr. Wayne and hans gave me a tour of all the pieces. The btr was on a lift, motor transmission, wheels off . Under the car looked very good, clear view with everything off. Ruf is puting new brakes,tires light weight flywheel clutch all new hoses pistons ,wiring harness, carbon fiber all, leather rs door pannels.I had them buy sparco seats. The car was surrounded by many boxes holding all of this stuff, it looked like xmas. I love going their, you are treated like a friend instead of a customer.The btr will be ready soon. I am ready now. I am 64 and feel like i am geting my first car.

You can add me to this list. I have a 2001 RTurbo converted here in the USA in April 2002. It has Ruf 520ps kit (550 was not available at time of conversion) and Ruf suspension. Otherwise a sleeper looking stock Turbo. Lapis Blue, Grey interior - 36,000 miles and still going strong!

I just did brakes, clutch and new PS2's. Anyone interested in it I will sell it for $65K.

I already removed the crappy Monroes long time ago and now I'm running on Bilstein PSS9 with ball supports, stiff bars etc as for the Turbo S suspension. I wonder if this will be okay.

The plan is to have the RUF Turbo R upgrade to 360KW, with their wheels and brakes.

No seats for the moment.

Not sure about body work. Is it technically needed or just for the RUF look?

I hope to discuss these issues with Norbert at the factory, we have a call scheduled for tomorrow morning, then in a meeting up there.

Your expert advice, guys, is more than welcome, of course.

If anybody want to come to the factory when I'll meet them, it would be great!

For most of us, the Ruf bits and pieces are simply cosmetic upgrades... including the brakes, which are beautiful to look at, but lets face it... the big reds are just fine. My previous turbo had the PSS-9s, and the Ruf suspension seems to be nicer... they have their own shock valving, their own springs, and a nice adjustable rear sway bar. I've heard that the RUF CTR bumpers are no longer available... I hope that's false, because those bumpers make a nice statement. I love the Ruf steering wheel and the Ruf shifter... a great feel to them. If you have stock seats (not sport seats), I'd recommend an upgrade of some sort... I have the Koneg K5000 seats which are virturally the same as the Ruf seats, at about 1/2 the price. I'l love to do the Ruf instruments. It sure is fun to spend your money! ;)

I ordered my seats from a distributor in Tehachappi, California, who was great. The seats come complete with the sliders and rails, and even a doofus (me) had no trouble installing them. Keonig makes the Ruf seats for Ruf, based on the K5000. I "cheated" and had a headrest cover embroidered with the Ruf logo, and it is velcro'd over the headrests. Looks pretty cool. I believe it's safe to say Steve (ca993twin) has the most RUF 'bits' on his car than anyone else on this thread... all Steve has left to get is the guages, shaved rain gutters, and of course the 'hidden rollcage'.

My odometer gear is sheared off... can you fix that at the same time? Any color choices for the faces? How hard is it for a doofus to remove the instruments? You mean like this? I don't have a decent pic of the Alois-autographed visor on the car yet (the visor is back on the car) as it is hard to get good lighting for a decent in-car picture. If I get that, I'll post again.

Steve, I actually took the visor with me to Germany when I visited them. They sent it back.

On the Ruf green gages, Wayne told me it's $1,600, may be a good-customer discount. I'm petitioning congress for a grant to get that done.

TTOD - LeonS - Ruf RT12 - 204 mph.
#2 - 193 mph.
Leon also brought his (enhanced) Turbo R - 185 mph.
Felix and I were a bit further down the list, but still in the top ten(ish).
One of the stranger events of the day was when MOD500 blew out his sunroof at 1xx mph. Said it felt like his eardrums were going to burst.

Thank you. Go to Ruf web site many pictures. I love the car.The engine and everthing else has been rebuilt .It took three months at Ruf. I added pilot cups, Koenig seats,short shift kit,carbon fiber which is not in from germany yet, rs door panels scroth harness . car is sun roof delete ,rear seat delete, and has two cut outs in front on bumper for ruf oil cooler.Crazy Fast I have Ruferia.

When Kevin first mentioned his interest in a Turbo R with a center exhaust, I sent him pictures of your car that I had saved and had been drooling over for quite a while. I'd be interested in some history lessons on that car... was it a very early Turbo R conversion? The first? They used the CTR center exhaust on your car (so very cool), but as far as I know, yours was the only one so equipped. Was it simply too expensive for us lowly Turbo R owners? Or was there some other reason that it didn't become a part of the standard Turbo R. As far as I know, it was never offerred as an option.

Thanks for joining in on this enjoyable thread. What is in your collection now? I recall Kevin describing a few very, very, VERY interesting pieces that were under covers. I'd love to hear more about them.

And I agree, Kevin has made that beautiful Turbo R into an even more amazing car.

ca993twin...Kevin bought the car from the guy I sold it to...he is the third owner. The center exhaust is a "one off" that Alois and and I thought we would try...it is completely different than the CTR system because of intercooler and turbo location, etc. We were able to use all original parts and just recut a fitted...Alois has some VERY talented people working with him. I lived in Germany for a little over 20 years and became very good friends with Alois, was President of PCA Germany Region before we hand to close it down due to insurance reasons. I also hosted Alois' Open House every year at Pfaffenhausen...

Interesting story. When you were in Germany, did you know a Mr. Charles Heubner? He lived in Bitburg, and was a German PCA member. He also was a good friend of the Rufs.

He was the PO of my Ruf BTR. He did the conversion (in Pfaffenhausen) in August 2000. I bought the car from him in July 2003.

Thank you very much for the complement. It is very difficult to find a 996 that looks good and certainly my RGT is put together much better than from the Porsche factory. The Porsche factory 993 and 997's look much better than the 996's and of course the pictures of the RUF cars here are quite amazing. I have not seen anything quite like my RUF RGT. I think as far as 996's go, that is a good thing.

Definitely. It's hard to have a unique 996, but you've succeeded.

The overall plan is so good that I already can't wait to pick her up after conversion...

I last chimed in on page 12. I was in the process of converting my 1990 964 C2 into a RCT Evo. I had the brakes, suspension, wheels/tires, gauges, shift knob, pedals, floor mats, front spoiler and the rear drivers side bumper cap for the second exhaust already done. The car was at the body shop to have the deck lid and whale tail painted and installed to make room for the intercooler. I finally was ready to pull the trigger on the engine / transmission conversion when the e-mail from Wayne came through. The US dollar to the Euro was much less than favorable. The cost went up an additional 35%. Ouch! Now what? Along with that news came the good news. There was a 1991 RCT, converted in Pfaffenhausen, coming into Dallas on consignment. Problem solved. Addiction fed. So, here are a few shots of the new and the old. The new arrived, finally, a few days before Christmas. Now the 1990 is completely back to OEM and for sale. I do have a few extra parts laying around the garage. Thanks to all for a fantastic post. The more time I spend in the seat, the more blown away I am. Ruf really is that good!

Pong (CP on this board) is organizing a road trip to Ruf Dallas. There will be a few of us coming from California, and I hope we can pick up a few of you on the way. Others may want to meet us in Dallas. Here's the plan so far:

Leave Los Angeles/San Fransisco area on Thursday, 3/20. Arrive at Ruf Dallas on Sunday 3/23 (yes, I know... its Easter Sunday). We have a "hill country" drive and BBQ arranged for the west Texas area on 3/22. We will head back to California on Monday, 3/24. Ruf will be open for us on Sunday, and has promised us Hooter girls and a lavish buffet. Well, I exaggerate.

Please... try to join us.

Is the Ruf gathering on for March? Do we have firm dates? I was going to drive out from Atlanta.

Currently shooting for Sunday March 23, 2008. That's Easter Sunday so could be subject to a little change.

I just spoke with Wayne at Ruf and all systems a go. He will host a BBQ lunch at Ruf, replete with Hooter Girls and appetitizers (not Hooter Girls AS appetitizers) and we will hang in the afternoon and talk Ruf/Porsche. It will be Sunday 3-23-2008 (yes I know it is Easter Sunday, but....) so we'd love as many Ruf owners to bring their Rufs by as possible. This could be one of the largest Ruf car gatherings around, so please don't miss out.

We will be in Austin on Friday 3-21-2008. Wayne and another Ruf perosn will come meet us and join the Hill Country Drive on Saturday (Wayne is originally from Austin). Anyone know what theses are? yea that right they are off a CRT2 and they are all carbonfiber rotors and pads with vented pistons

I'd love to know and see more about your car. I couldn't find anything about it on your website.

Those rotors look like they are from Carbone Industries primarily used on dedicated race cars where cold brakes are not an issue or possibility. With those rotors, when they are below 250C, they will do nothing. Nice hard pedal, no deceleration until they get heat in them. I am surprised to see these on a road car.

If you are looking for replacements for those rotors, I have a few sets in the garage, one set being brand new. They are $3k per rotor. I also have the carbon-carbon pads, new. They fit the Brembo MMX 8 piston caliper. I only have one caliper, but have access to a few sets if needed.

How come you don't have the "R", perhaps you can pick one up next week when you visit RUF.

Kevin - glad to see you got your car back from RUF. If you did get a R-turbo conversion, why don't you contact RUF and get a RUF R-turbo badge for the rear ... like this picture below. The "turbo" with the "R" on the end doesn't look right, IMHO.

Cannoli, turboR and RTurbo are two different things: turboR is a RUF upgrade (i.e. Porsche VIN) based on the 993TT, RTurbo is a RUF model (i.e. RUF VIN) based on the 996.

Kevin and Steve, RUF factory put an all-black turboR badge on my engine lid. I didn't see it yet, so I don't know how it is. Will collect the car late next week, then let you know.

Oh ... got it. Thanks for the clarification. That being said, I'd go with a plain old RUF badge or get a black "Turbo" with a black "R". IMHO, adding a black "R" to a silver "Turbo" doesn't look right.

pmf - here's part of the confusion, at least on my part. RUF Auto Centre shows this 996 turbo with a RUF 550 conversion and is shown as a "2002 Porsche RUF 996 Rturbo Conversion". What gives?

AFAIK, the "Turbo R" designates a 993 model, with either a Ruf or Porsche VIN. The "R Turbo" designates a 996 model, again, with either a Porsche or Ruf VIN.

PMF... does the emblem come complete with the "TurboR" script, or just the "R"???? I'm in need of the "Turbo" script as well as the "R", and don't want to buy it twice.

You right, Steve. I should have said majority of turboR are Porsche conversion and majority of RTurbo are RUF models, but you can find both situations. Sorry for stating this point quickly (and therefore misleading).

As for the turboR badge, I haven't seen it yet. I will post a pic next week.

Shoot! And to me the silver turbo and black R is the best visual upgrade!! Funny how different looks work for different folks! I was thinking about changing the turbo script to Black, but really liked how the R stood out. Sets the car a part and you definately notice it more.

I don't believe there's a standard with any of this Ruf stuff, and that's one thing that makes Rufs Rufs. Check out LeonS's car, for example: rather rare shaved gutters, and a one-off spoiler with one-off graphics. I'd stick with whatever gets you through the night. And I think what you've got looks stunning. I could almost imagine a silver "turbo" with a guards red "R" on a black car. Would work for me ... maybe. :)

Except in my case, Alois did a one-off gold package for my PO (I have metallic black paint). Kevin, you can see that in person on Saturday.
