Ok, 996 Sport Seats Guys...Spill the Beans
I got my 996 sport seats in. Just need a car
Been searching the site and the word is that it can be done. One post said if you reverse the rails 180 degrees you do not loose your 1in. head room. I am looking at the seats and don't understand what that means.
So I need detailed instructions from you guys that have done this so I can do it.
PLEASE

Look at the side mounts. One bolt hole is higher than the other. Unbolt the side mounts and turn them around. This means that the left seat left runner needs to go on the right seat, right runner. Swap the inner ones over the same way.
A small amount of filing is required from memory. You will also need to (using the threaded bar in the car as a guide) drill a couple more bolt holes as you want each seat to be held in by 8 new allen head bolts.
These seats take a little trial and error to get 100% right but it's worth it

US sport seat vs. Euro GT3 seat?
Some confusion here. I think Tim has the regular, reclining 996 sports seat, i.e. the ones pictured in the post at this link:
https://rennlist.com/forums/993-turbo-forum/294874-dude-where-s-my-car.html
...and not the fixed-back Euro GT3 shells that are so popular, i.e., these:
The problem is that the instructions for "turning the rails around 180 degrees" and ACE's description above ("look at the side mounts") apply to the Euro GT3 shells. On Tim's seats, I believe the rails are integral with the seat bottom, aren't they?

I love the photos above and would like to make this same conversion. My only concern is my height. I can't wear a helmet for DE events in the standard seats as I am 6'3" and mostly torso. The fixed back seats look tremendous, but I'm already at a serious seat back angle in the standard seats. Would hate to spend the dough, and find out I still don't fit in the seats comfortably. Anyone coming to the St. Louis DE with a similar seat setup. My car is set up for AutoX and track work and it drives me nuts that I can't use it.

Bill, I'm pretty far from St. Louis but hopefully someone can let you sit in their car with GT3 seats.
I don't have exact measurements, but I know the GT3 seats with B-K side mounts (as in my car, pictured above) increase headroom over stock seats by an inch or so, maybe more. You could get even more by eliminating sliders and bolting directly to the floor (about 3/4"), and if necessary, you can always take out the bottom seat cushion and/or use a thinner cushion.
Tonight I'll measure headroom with a helmet on and let you know...

My experience with a 996GT3 seat replacing a factory 993tt 8 way power seat is as follows:
when using the BK brackets and Sparco sliders I was perhaps 1/2" lower than with the 993 seat at its lowest position
removing the GT3 seat's lower cushion adds another inch or so
the factory 996 sliders are perhaps 10mm taller than the Sparco sliders
the factory 996 side brackets are perhaps 25mm taller than the BK side brackets
I'm not tall (just under 6') but long in the torso and needed all the room I could get. Plus the seat makes the car feel so much more alive and responsive.
