Jean,

I think we are saying the same thing. In the 993 the primary function of the knock sensors are for protection and I agree that in the more advanced 996TT ECU they are used for additional control. As I've said before, the Motronics are very sophisticated ECUs and quite capable of running engines. I believe the limitation in a production car is the use of a mass air flow sensor. There are aftermarket ECUs with knock sensing capability, including a module for MoTeC.

Anyone ever use a Motec ecu with the factory O2, frequency valve, knock and air intake temp sensors on a 993 tt? Like a "plug in" replacement for the Bosh unit if there is such a thing?

Geofrey/Jean/others..Since we're on the general topic of octane...a friend has a . bosch Efi TT on 3.3, full fins, twin-plug, MSD ign's, big IC etc.yada yada... .. he freshended it up... It appears his shop may have only used .016 to .020 ring gaps....not the .032-.035 gaps suggested...

It has spurred some discussion on octane, cooling, EGT's, headtemp.. and other topics... after some chats it was sugested, possibly more importantly than oil cooling and head temps to watch egt's with the tight gaps... (before it's regapped) ... and octane seems to be the largest influencer of cooler egt's... any generic thoughts??
