Can A 993TT beat a 996TT In A Shoot Out.

The question is a bit too simple here. Once you put the word "tuner" in to the equation the discussion can go on for eternity depending on all available configurations. If you put the word "budget" in to it also, you'll end up with something very weird since budget will not allow you to get the latest technology. So to keep it simple, if it is going to be comparable, you'll need to set some rules like FIA or something equivalent..
Just as a small reminder. Both 996TT and 993TT are designed to be street cars. Neither is a Moby Dick or a 962.
The ring is very special also indeed. What's good on the ring is not always suitable on other tracks and the other way around. The ring is a very very special course and can not be set as a standard for over all performance.

Not tuned, but stock:
There is a magazine here in the UK called EVO and they compared a 993tt to a 996tt a little while back, you can read about it here:

I tried to enter my car for the last 996TT shootout. The editor thought that it would be a good comparison with all of these current model tuner TTs and a previous generation air cooled TT. Turns out that when he went back to the tuners to get their OK as they were already entered, they did not want to have my car participate. Wonder why???.

Current fastest street driven car in world is 993TT in Oklahoma:
I am sure Jean knows about this car...
Guy does not come on any of the boards, it was built by Todd Knighton at Protomotive and
last quartermile run was in the mid to high 9's at 158 MPH!!!
Second fastest could very well be Alex D's 996TT in California, which originally was a
S-CAR-GO car with Nitrous oxide injection (and was in first shoot-out), Now completely
rebuilt (Todd ripped the nitrous off) and put out about 863 HP on an engine dyno at 1.3 bar (and CRAZY Alex runs alot more turbo pressure than that!!)and beats everything (superbikes included) he runs against....
IMHO Now there is REAL performance!!!!!!!!!

I am sure there are strict rules and regulations at these shoot outs. Perhaps those that was involved like Bob and Kevin can explain them so that my question don't seems so vague.
Here's an example of 2005 Road & Track Supercars Challenge that inuded the Ruf CTR and Rturbo

jjb - why where the 993tt 's weak examples? just curious what was there?
i wasnt in p-car land back in 96 when the 993tt was the current turbo model to see all the tuner variations.
Its also amazing how well the old Ruf yellowbird does after so much time.

Clearly that was the case here as the modified car had some sort of suspension work and couldn't best the 996tt. I've driven dozens's of 993tt mostly modified. I've observed a well set up 993tt with 520 +hp will give a 996 GT2 a good run.
On this test day less was more. I guess what I wanted to see was a 993tt like Viper Bob's for a comparison.
