Default Lightweight Wheel Nuts

The Standard Light Alloy wheel nuts are so light you have to wonder if they're upto the job? especially with a modified car.

Do I need to consider replacing them for steel ones?

or Should I expect a rear wheel doing an overtaking manouver in the near future... byebye wheel.

I've never heard of a lug nut failure... just be sure that the nut is seated by a lot of turns (if you use spacers... use longer studs) so that there are plenty of threads to bite. I think steel nuts can get by with about 5 turns minimum, I don't know what makes sense for these alloy nuts. Good question.

I went to steel so I could use my impact wrench to swap wheels.

Many clubs require steel if your doing high speed events. The rational is that you can see the complete stud with steel and can't see with the aluminum lugs. Some offsets may not allow enough thread on the lug with the stock lug nuts hense a saftey issue.
