Race Gas
HI all since I'm in the process of rebuilding my car I was looking into buying a 55 gal. drum of 101 unleaded race gas to keep in my garage so I could mix about 5 gal. into my 20 gal tank for an overall 94 octane rateing so my question is do you think I would feel the difference with the higher octane and are there any down sides to doing this or any potential damage to my motor any info would be much appreciated Thank You Doug

I would highly recommend it.. Think of it as a insurance policy against detonation.. Yes, the engine has knock sensors, but why allow the engine to reley on timing being pulled.
Doug a word of cautions.. The first time you put a straight fill of 100 in.. You will end up calling the fuel "boys" for the frequent "fill" plan..
There isn't really any downside.. 94 octane is what the factory wanted in the first place..

Doug I would agree to all except the 55 gal drum part. You can buy the VP 101 or VP 103 in 5 gallon buckets. After you are done fill with water then empty it and crush it. The thought of having a half full 55 gal drum in my gararge does not make me feel good. Remember its the vapors that are the most dangerious.
Contact CL Bryant, they are in Modesto and Sacramento.
FWIW I buy 200 gals at at time to get the best price.

The problem I have is that there is no place local to me to buy 101 octane unleaded fuel here in the Napa Valley if there is I would love to find out where I can get it locally the drum I would get would be sealed with a pump and I have no open flames in my garage and it is well ventilated so I'm hopeing it would be safe enough but I'm open for suggestions Thanks Doug

K24Madness- How do you cart home 200 gallons of fuel? I am not a math whiz, but that must weigh a lot! Isn't 200 gallons in five gallon containers as big a fire hazard as a 55 gallon drum?

IMHO it is far safer to have sealed 5 gal cans than a half full 55 gal drum. Gas fumes are far more dangerious than liguid gas. Liguid gas burns, gas vapors explode.

Vince:
Keep the containers (jugs or drums) very tightly sealed and it lasts several months.
When the container is open, light-end aromatics evaporate that affect mid-range throttle response so keep them tightly sealed and you'll have no problems.
