Opinions on this 993TT
Since selling my '96 993 C2 I have been actively searching for a 993TT. The TT market appears to be getting tougher and tougher with prices seemingly on the rise.
Here is the closest car I have found that I am strongly considering buying. Please note it has 11mths (or 70K miles) of a Porsche Factory warranty left.
It has rebuilt turbos and has all records and books.
The CarFax is my greatest concern. No accident or damage history but the
car has had 5 different owners.
-1996 Porsche 993 turbo (VIN # WP0AC2994VS375216), black/black leather,
> 25,650 miles, 6-spd., Porsche factory warranty which can transfer to a new
> owner, 688 - AM/FM Radio with Single CD Player 650 - Sunroof 586 - Lumbar Support-Left Seat 445 - Rim Caps (4) w/Porsche Painted Crests 454 -
Automatic Speed Control Z53 - Head Restraint w/Porsche Crests X54 -
Stainless Steel Exhaust Pipes XX1 - Front Floor Mats w/"Porsche" P11 -
> Self-Dim Mirrors & Rain Sensor Y04 - Carbon Fiber Package I includes X56
> and X57 X56 - Lower Carbon Dashboard X57 - Carbon Door Trim Panels X97 -
> Aluminium Shift **** X98 - Aluminium Brake Handle It also has Clear Side
> Markers, Leather Center Rest, and factory Litronic. The car has been
> dealer serviced and garaged, buy for $77,500.00. ~ NY
Let me know what you think. Fellow Rennlister in bad Porsche withdrawls but
I'm not willing to compromise to rid my self of M3 nightmares.
Thanks,

price seems a little high for a '96. i paid more than 10k less for my '96 993tt less than a year ago with 35k miles, fresh clutch and brakes with 30k service done. granted my car did not have rebuilt turbos and some of the other options.

Steve,
With similiar options and 21k on the clock for my 96 993tt I too paid more than 10k less than this car asking price. My PPI checked out fine except for blown OEM shocks. Good Luck.

what makes you say 5 owners? where they in different states or just title situations that could be from the same owner. Carfax can be somewhat misleading at times and even if it says 5 owners the same owner may have changed states, paid off a loan, etc.
If the car checks out at PPI and is in the condition you desire, I would not let that worry you too much.
As far as the price, I would agree with the others, although the 993TT market can go up and down in just a few months (one reason I think it is one of the best turbos to buy right now) it does seem the asking price is the very highest end of the market, but if you can get the price down 5 or 10k then it would seem to be a fair deal.
Do the service records that come with the car show 5 different owners?

I'm the fourth owner of my 1996 TT. Fresh owners of a car can be a good thing... or a bad thing. I don't think I'd let that fact stop me if everything else checks out. The fact that the turbos have already been replaced is a bit of a concern... either the car wasn't treated well, or the problem was misdiagnosed (very common), and all it need was the proper oil filters properly installed. Since turbos can last 75k+ miles if properly cared for, the fact that yours are fresh on a 25k miles car doesn't really add any value. The car seems to be nicely equipped and would be a fair price at about $70k -> $72k. Good luck.

Steve, I would agree with others. It appears too high. Last fall I paid $6k less w/21k miles and a 4 year warranty, all service up to date and complete records. You no doubt factored shipping costs and/or travel time to get it and if the suspension if its still OEM. As far as owners mine only had 2, as long as you do your homework and records are available that many owners is ok IMO. Just as a comparison Premier in MO. has a couple lessor mileage cars at $79k I think and you might be able to get them closer to your range. Yes its retail but but if your looking and want it now its closer to Ill.
Good luck

Steve, I just sold my '96TT with 13k miles for the same exact money.
My car was absolutley perfect & I was the 2nd owner of the car.
I would not even consider this car with that kind of history. 11 months of
warranty will be gone in a flash. 5 owners with different styles of driving to me is way to questionable. There are plenty of cars like this out there.
Be patient and you will find what you are looking for.
If you want someone you can trust, call Randy @ Motorcars Intl.
I had a great experience when I bought my TT back in 2000.
Best of luck, Pete

Thanks guys, I agree the price is high and a recent cursory inspection revealed a few items that need attn. The carbon fiber is begining to split, the front headlight is cracked, the interior appears to
more worn than one would expect for such low miles.
Patience is the word.

The CarFAx indicates owners in IL, VA, OH, NJ and NY. The dates of purchase are about 2 yrs apart. The car has also been in CA. Interesting history. I think I'll pass. FYI. Owner refused to consider
anything less than $77K.

Cor2nir,
It does take time to find a good car, if this didn't work out then it wasn't meant to be. It took me several months before finding my 96 993TT (10k miles) back in 2002. At first I was looking for a C4S, and found a very nice TT instead.

Hi Steve,
As mentioned here, there are some nice examples of 96/97 TT's around.
Mine is for sale and seems to meet your criteria,( two owner, 18k miles ). Car has new OS-2 tires, original paint with perfect interior. Do a search under my user name and check the pics or check the classified section for info and contact info.
Good luck and have patience, you will find the car that's right for you.........
