Default Exhaust Options?

While my car hasn't arrived yet, I have read through hundreds of threads in regards to the exhaust note of the tt. It appears that my stock exhaust will have to be changed in order to hear a enhanced engine note. My last car had a Tubi on it and I loved it, but it looks like many manufactures offer products for the Porsche at less cost than a Tubi and able to deliver a sound I would enjoy.

Those familar w/the Tubi know it as a low baratone sound that isn't annoying to the neighbors yet you know its there and it has the ability to scream like a scalded cat at WOT. I assume other more costly mods may be coming to this "go fast crack pipe" and would like a few reccomendations on the sound I desire at a reasonable cost so $ can be used for other uses. I have ideas via research, but others have more personal experience than I.

Thanks

I have the Fabspeed bypasses and I love them alot more than my neighbors do.
I'm looking for something a little subdued at low revs(in the neighborhood) but with that crackle when I'm on it. I've also tried Fabspeed Maxflos, but they're not much louder than stock. I know the Supercups wail too loud so that rules out Fabspeed for me. If RSR's are made for turbos that may be the answer.
Good luck Tom

Tom, PM John D. He's the poobah of rennlist

I second the muffler bypass recommendation. They sound great and add hp (some). Turbos should not come in any other way.

CJ, RSRs are indeed available for Turbos. Take your neighbours for a ride and that should help convince them of why you MUST have bypasses

I'm thinking the bypasses are too quiet. Maybe cat bypasses are in my future....

Also, don't forget the benefits of dropping a few lbs. The stock mufflers weigh about 40lbs together and their location at the back corners of the car can't be good for handling. I forgot to weigh the actual Fabspeed tips, but should be near a couple of lbs each.

I have a CarGraphic Cat By-Pass and Turbo RSR's. I love the sound. It is not to loud but gives a tight rich exhaust note that is a joy to the ears. It is the way the car should have sounded from the factory. The only thing that I didn't like was that my car lost 3hp at the rear wheels from my stock cats and mufflers. It went from 385hp to 382 hp and torque dropped from 420 fp to 412fp. It sure sounds faster though... such is life.

Have a Techart sports exhaust and hi-flow cats on mine, is ok at low revs when taking it steady round town, etc. Though when the turbos light up there is a mighty roar and bellow generated, I love the whooossshhhhhhhhhhh sound too of the exhaust gases been forced out of the pipes as you near the rev limiter......but maybe I am a little sad!!

Have never heard a TT equipped with a Fabspeed by-pass muffler, etc and am very unterested to hear one.

Best Regards

Martyn.

Your best bet for performance and sound would be to have cat- bypass pipes for quick spooling and a low restriction custom muffler, lighter and less restrictive than stock. Sport Catalytics don't seem to deliver to their promises.

If you are into customization, get a fabspeed cat bypass pipe or similar and you might want to try out these mufflers, I know the sound is very nice but no idea about performance gains.

And here is the disclaimer: I have not tried them or have anything to do with this company.

Jean - On our cars, where would you put that? I have cat bypasses and found a billet race muffler that I installed in place of the heater pod of the exhaust. So my exhaust is loud, and I have no heat. There really is not another place to install it unless you connect it to the cat pipe and stick it in the muffler area with some mandrel bends.

Bob,

It looks bigger than what is is. Here is how it can be fitted, this pic is on a 930.

This is similar to the way I have mine set up with the smaller mufflers. The issue is, do turbo owners want to have not heat option?

I second the vote for muffler bypasses - I have the ones by GHL. As others have mentioned, you get the great sound and remove 30 lbs from each of the rear corners while allowing quicker spool-up on your turbos. A bit loud for some, but otherwise a perfect mod.
