Default 1996 DME versus 1998 DME swap

Does anyone knows if a 1998 993 turbo DME is compatible in a 1996 turbo 993? I know there's a difference chip wise between them but I can't fire up the engine in my 96 993 turbo also I can't find any differences in the wiring diagrams between 96/97/98. I know my 98 DME works, I fitted the 98 DME and my 96 immobilizer along with my F9T DME relay in a 1997 non turbo 993 car and was able to fire up the car. My 1996 DME as an immo bypass therefore no issues to fire up the engine but I would like to keep the immo feature in the 1998 DME.

I'm able to crank my engine and fuel pressure up to the injectors but no injector pulse and no spark, something is stopping the DME start up sequence and I can't find it. I double and triple check the electrical connections at connector X4/1, X4/2 and X60 connector and everything is as per wiring diagram.

Any suggestions would be great.

What part numbers on the DMEs in question?

US parts book shows same DME part number for 96 and 97 (993 618 665 10) for the M64.60 '96 onwards, so would assume a US '98 (993 618 665 10) version would work. But, not seeing a unique US '98 Turbo DME part option listed in PET. Same for M64.60 engine harness, same part number.

Typically for US models, it was a '96 or '97 Turbo, a '98 US Turbo would be a rare item, but have not read of any '98 model changes in the M64.60 offerings, so as you surmise, should the same across Turbos.

Thinking the IMMO mod is the issue, but can't explain why. Would think the '98 was really just a '97 rebadge to clear out inventory as the models went water cooled, can't imagine any new engineering being done for a - '98 clear out parts inventory for the "new era".
